My reasons for not just going with Stevens as JOC's backup (and signing an attacking LWB)....

Having to change 2 defensive positions rather than just 1 in the event of unavailability.
Loss of physicality - not only with Stevens LCB, but also with Osborn LWB.
Defensive ability more important than attacking ability when filling in. Especially at PL level with less control of games.
We have Freeman now who'll offer left side width and attacking threat, and we'll add more attacking talent.
JOC picked up more niggles last season and I'd rather cover him properly this time. We can't have him missing more than 2 or 3 games.
