Kitson Signs For Oxford!

Yes, when asked to play in such a way. On the other hand, he did very well in Steve Coppell's proper football team at Reading.

I agree his performances deteriorated as the season progressed but overall he did well. He scored goals, won penalties for Blackman to put away and led the line well.

As for moaning to the referee, he had plenty of justification. He was fouled uphill and down dale by rustic defenders without any help from officials yet was penalised for being a big bloke and standing his ground.

I agree with the decision to release him but he deserves our thanks rather than vitriol.

I think he deserves everything he gets. It's not all about what happens on the pitch and you see to think he doesn't deserve vitriol yet you seem to want to get on Ironside's back. You're a strange man at times

As he started the season unfit and overweight is one thing, as he joined us late. That he looked heavier, slower and more unfit after months of daily training is worse and suggests that his professionalism, hunger and attitude is no longer good enough. Although often tempting, we need to make less signings like that.

players get older, Kitson reached the nightlite of his career with us, a fact of life, when you get past 32 as a forward , you play a little less mobile every passing month , he visibly was getting like the tin man in the wizard of oz , seizing up

Kitson did a good job for us. Some of the remarks above are ludicrous.

If Nogoals Ironside is ever half as good, he'll be twice the player he is now.

Exactly.

Rather ironic really many on here making Kitson out to be some sort of thug for sticking one rightfullly on that Yeovil lad but would happily welcome the likes Michael Brown back to the club.

Well that's certainly right. I'm sorry if it comes across as getting on his back. My point is that the lad simply has not justified the views of many who would have him leading our attack next season or those who wanted him in last season at Kitson's expense. He was not outstanding at U-18 or U-21 level. He has never scored a goal in a grown-up league. What on earth makes people think he should be anywhere near the first team? I know......he's young, enthusiastic and tries hard. People used to say that about a young lad called Nick a while ago. No amount of wishful thinking is going to turn Ironside into anything more than a League 2/Conference performer, and that's being generous.

We vilify, for some odd reason, a seasoned professional who has acquitted himself well at a high level in the game, yet we laud a kid who is as raw as a smacked arse and will not make half the player Dave Kitson has.

Why does Kitson deserve 'everything he gets'? You're as strange as I am!

Kitson undoubtedly was a better option that Ironside last season and has had any probably will always have had a better career than Ironside. That said Kitson tailed off alarmingly and wasn't anything like the positive influence you seem to think Pinchy, especially towards the end of the season. His contributions when it came to the crunch were negligeble at best. The fact it that right neither Ironside or Kitson can cut it at League One level.

Joe Ironside is 19. David Weir was 22 before he played a single minute of football in a "grown-up league". I suspect Weir might not write off the lad as quickly as you appear to have done. I agree with you that unless he improves he's unlikely to make it with us. That's not to say that he is incapable of improving though.

I sincerely hope he does. I don't think he will. If he does, it won't be because he's a Blade or has a name the fans can 'sing'. He's certainly not good enough, as of now, to be our first choice centre-forward. You should be more worried about the judgement of those who would throw him into the team immediately, than me writing him off. SUFC has no obligation whatsoever to give any player 'a run of games' to see if they are good enough. It's up to the player to make it impossible to leave him out. The player can do that by excelling at his present level.

I agree. I said much the same at Post 23 above.

Yet the waste of space that is Doyle played week after week.

I trust that will come to an end under the new manager, who gives every impression of knowing what he's doing.

Captain Morgan would have installed Mrs. Doyle as captain for life.

Showed flashes of being easily the best player on the pitch last season. A good signing who finished as our leading goal scorer (Blackman aside who left) Another bizarre blades hatred.

A decent enough goal return but never really looked 100% whilst at The Lane and his age is definitely starting to show. It got to the point where his lack of fitness on the pitch led to other players having to change styles of play to carry him at times in my opinion.

He's been a good striker and a decent poacher that you can't deny but we got him way too late in his career and I would have much preferred to keep Blackman on board that have even got Kitson in and I do firmly believe the decision to sell Blackman cost us promotion because Kitson made little to no impact as said above to the end of the season and in the play-offs did very little.

Little or no service to him though. Put loads of crosses into the right area and he will score but ask him to chase a ball down and he is less likely to do so.
