Heard this a few days ago from a U's supporter who claimed to be ITK. I didn't think they would be able to stump up for the wages he would be asking. Must have taken a fair wage cut?

Good acquisition for them I reckon. If he works on fitness and retains some passion for the game, I think he'll bag a fair few in that league.

Thoughts?

"This should be in the other sport section, is my initial thought, or maybe the rumours section at best. Nowt to do with the Blades, he's left!"

I thought a key player from last season signing for a lower league team would fall under 'general blades chat'. Under that rule, we would never be able to discuss any past Sheffield United player because he's not in the current squad?

Thought it would be interesting to hear other blades thoughts on the matter, that's all.

It's not a rumour by the way - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23085801

That's what I thought. I imagine he didn't quite receive the interest he would've liked.
Or he realised that he'd finished his career last season.

He was the secret footballer though. He confirmed it himself

I think 12 goals from him last season wasn't actually that bad of a return when most didn't expect him to score 1 when he signed for us. He should do well at Oxford and will probably get a dozen for them I reckon.

Didnt he say this about us when he dropped down from championship last season...

"Oxford is the only League Two club that I considered because at this stage in my career I am looking to be part of a successful promotion campaign."

He's acutally confirmed it has he? I read a few of his articles last year imagining them from Kitson's perspective - there's an interesting one here talking about how tired he felt towards the end of the season. Maybe explains why his performances tailed off. http://www.thesecretfootballer.com/articles/2062/get-busy-get-a-reaction-get-results/

Has he gone as player or referee? - he reffed all the games he played in last season

This was my thoughts to an Oxford fan on another forum:

"Dave Kitson's game for us:

Foul, moan at the ref, foul, moan at the ref, foul.

He started off quite well when he first joined, but got gradually worse as the season went on. He was woeful in the playoffs when you'd have thought he'd be the experienced head to help us through it!

If you get some decent crosses in he'll grab you a few goals though, he ended up with 11 in the league last season. He's not very mobile, his legs have more or less gone but he's still dangerous in the air and is hard to shift being the "size" that he is. I'd say he's only got 1 more year left in him at League Two."

Apparently. He said he was to a lass I know. She didn't know what I was on about, i just asked her to ask him when she saw him. She did and he said yes it was him...

He actually wasn't a bad acquisition, all things told. Quite a decent goal return (1 in 3?), although as others have said he seemed to lose the plot as the season went on.

Well Oxford fans certainly didn't take to him in our FA Cup game - not sure if he wound them up, but he was getting a lot of stick throughout.

And there was me thinking Kitson was a major part of the hoofwaffe.

While I wasn't happy with his level of fitness or how he conducted himself on the pitch he did a job for us scoring 1 in 3. Fair play to him managing to negotiate a 2 year deal at his age, I certainly wouldn't have offered him that.

Yes, when asked to play in such a way. On the other hand, he did very well in Steve Coppell's proper football team at Reading.

I agree his performances deteriorated as the season progressed but overall he did well. He scored goals, won penalties for Blackman to put away and led the line well.

As for moaning to the referee, he had plenty of justification. He was fouled uphill and down dale by rustic defenders without any help from officials yet was penalised for being a big bloke and standing his ground.

I agree with the decision to release him but he deserves our thanks rather than vitriol.

The Kitson of Reading days were far different to the Kitson Stoke, Pompey or we got, over the hill and over paid reduced to whining at referee's due to his lack of fitness. No wonder he got some rough treatment at times he didn't have the mobility to do any other than stand his ground, the referee's all saw him for what he is a cheat trying to niggle defenders into bookings or in other words a big useless dirty bastard. Not that I didn't tell everyone this before we signed the piece of shit.

How does that work out then?

"Oh, on the off chance you see Dave Kitson..."

"Who?"

"Dave Kitson, big ginger bloke, plays for United. Anyway, if you happen to bump into him in Morrisons, ask him if he's the Secret Footballer for me will you?"

"Erm...ok"

"You're a star."

the likelyhood he would now have probably signed another year for us if we went up puts a different take on his performances late last season. i'd presumed he wasn't bothered cos he knew he wasn't staying, now it looks like he was just knackered. finished. kaputski.

She worked somewhere he frequented. Didn't know he (not tony mcMahon) were until somebody told her. When she told me I asked her to ask why he was shite, she wouldn't ask that so I settled for the secret footballer thing.

She did, he confirmed. I then explained what it was. She was none the wiser nor interested

Kitson did a good job for us. Some of the remarks above are ludicrous.

If Nogoals Ironside is ever half as good, he'll be twice the player he is now.

Give Ironside a chance! If he gets a run in the first team and still doesn't cut it then fair enough. He's a young lad and needs encouragement not people knocking him all the time.

What has he done to merit a run in the first team? We're a football club, not the Job Centre.
