King Power Stadium

Was shocked by the lack of atmosphere last night.

It's my first visit to this place and as expected it was a decent looking modern bowl with good views for all. Looks like they picked number 3 from the "buy an identikit football ground" brochure.

The striking thing was how deathly quiet their fans were throughout. Apart from the 150 lads standing next to the away end with the inevitable drum, the rest of the ground seemed to have turned up to watch ice hockey. Pathetic goal music, then back to sitting on their hands 30 seconds later. At least Derby seemed to have a "home end" behind the goal.

I know we can criticise the atmosphere at BDTBL but it was a real insight into how a move to new stadium can totally change the matchday experience, for the worse. I've been to few of these modern bowls now and they are all crap for atmosphere.

I was in the home end with a friend, and I have to disagree to be honest. Only criticism is those fucking clappers.

The ground has seen a big upgrade but it was what you would expect having been in the champions league.

The atmosphere from there fans was better than BDTBL. This is one of there most least attractive games this season. It’s like us playing Walsall in Cup.

Better than the Lane? Can't agree there, sorry! They only sang occasionally and although I take everyone's point that it wasn't a game where the home fans were going to be loud, I would say they excelled in being quiet. The stadiums is soulless too. Being there three times now and the other two were in the league and the atmosphere was crap. Its definitely worse than the Lane for atmosphere and I don't think the Lane is bad at all, its just that we pride ourselves in being a decent atmosphere and sometimes its just standard. We all know that away fans sing more than way fans generally but yesterday was pitiful from Leicester but that's largely due to their inept ground design wise with no Kop or singing section other than a small hundred or so who just go near the away fans the the banter.

I didn’t mean in terms of atmosphere.

I think people underestimate what a big game it was for Leicester. They've never won the FA Cup and not reached the semis since '82.

They weren’t bad, but weren’t great. The football in a library chant was funny, but it wasn’t too dissimilar to a home game at the Lane in terms of atmosphere

I thought it was also a crap atmosphere. I was sat right on the back row near a gangway and nowhere near any home fans so didn't hear them much. Hence the reason blades fans were singing football in a library!!. Had it not been for 3500 Blade's fans in full voice for the whole game!. It would have been as quiet as a graveyard!!. I know it was only little old Sheffield united in a 5th round FA cup game!!. I suspect it will be different when Chelsea visit in the next round!!?. Utb

It's the same in pretty much every ground in the country, every weekend.

I don't think the King Power beats the Lane on anything to be honest, maybe other than toilets! But I admit I don't like soulless bowl stadiums.

The guy stood next to us arrived at his seat over 10 mins in and told of how Blades fans stormed a turnstile at kick off in frustration causing his young lad to be crushed and Leicester to temporarily close the turnstile.

I was in this crush. To be honest, I was absolutely fuming at my fellow Blades. Fair enough the checking was probably way over the top, but that's no excuse for pushing into barriers to try and get in. I turned around to tell people to stop pushing, only for the fella behind me to say no and dig his knee into mine and keep pushing more. When I resisted, he started shoving my (pretty tiny) girlfriend and everyone flew about 20 yards forwards into barriers, into the police. I ended up having to dart past people to try and rescue her. Police horses had to come in. Absolute w*nker but he wasn’t the only one either. There were kids in that group, for christ’s sake. By the time it had finished everyone was up by the turnstiles and, unsurprisingly, they were then shut. It was OTT from Leicester to do such serious checking, but I refuse to believe anyone who says the Blades fans had no choice. I was fuming for most of the game. Had absolutely no sympathy for Blades fans there. Acting like animals.

If that's the Premier League for you you can keep it. Watered down shite aided poorly by these bad boys I found on my desk this morning (Leicester fan in the office).

All that checking and there was still at least one smoke bomb brought in.

Spoiled for the majority by the large numbers of "f*cking w@nkers at the Lane"

The reason I don't like modern stadiums is due to their lack of structural character. I don't buy into the notion that they make an atmosphere worse. 15,000 plus people can make a lot of noise anywhere.

The reason home crowds create no atmosphere nowadays is because football culture has changed. It's up to the people to create an atmosphere. Not the concrete and pillars. I wasn't there so I can't qualify what you're saying but if the belief is that the atmosphere was crap then it means their support is crap, not the stadium.

"Football in a library...."

So what was Bramall Lane tonight then?

I'm afraid to say it was worse than what the King Power was for an FA Cup game against lower league opposition.
