Guess he's on decent championship money. So if we're up there next season it won't be as disproportionate as it was when we signed him.

He's had a good spell at Burton so he's still capable at that level. My hunch is we'd see a back four if went up, so that makes him a genuine contender as Freeman might struggle there.

All pretty speculative....
I don't think he was ever a great defender, and his injury scuppered his forward play. I'd be surprised if he offered much more than Freeman at five times the cost.

If your short on resource, the last place I'd be throwing it is at fullback.

Freeman and Coutts are shining examples of CW's managerial abilities and in particular man management. He got the Job, transfer listed the pair of them. fast forward 10 Months and both can rightfully expect to have won promotion, played very integral parts and in that promotion and earned a place in the League One team of the year.another one to add to the long list of achievements by CW so far

Indeed, but great credit to the players too. I ❤ the pair of them....

....speshly Couttsy.

Fresh season - fresh start. His experience of Championship would be an asset and we all expect the defence to look different next year if we don't pursue interest in EEL and Ol' man Jake moves on.

I don't think it's fair to judge JB with Adkins as manager. CW & AK have proved that they can get performances out of players who looked totally lost last season under Sadkins. Rather than shift Brayford at a knock-down price (to a team who could well be our rivals next season), surely it's better to recall him. Whatever wages he was on when he first came here are now a thing of the past for Brayford the player.

He's such an enthusiastic runner. Willing to link and play with anyone. That said it would be good to have Brayford back for the competition. Not just for Freeman but for others and it also puts pressure on in other positions.
Brayford having a year out with someone else. It will also be a fresh challenge for him should he be in CWs mind? If he is it is like getting a new signing in all over again with no further investment.

You know what's really impressive?

The fact that despite barely having any competition for his place all season, he's maintained his high standards and remained consistent.

Especially considering that he's a player who's had consistency and possibly mentality issues in the past.

Wilder's done a great job with him but Freeman deserves a hell of a lot of credit. I can't fault or question anything about him.

I wanted to find a freeman thread to make a note about him this season. I've thoroughly enjoyed every game he's played in, the effort the skill and attacking intent in every move, it's been fantastic. He's left some gaps behind him ,but that has been down to the formation and tactics of the manager and it was up to EEL, Basham, Fleck and Coutts to cover those gaps.

I think he's a better defender than he's given credit for as well and we may well see more of that next year. Only just 25, there may be more improvement to come.

It is not just this season though. Many have failed to mention how well he was playing at the start of the season before.
He was our most consistent player and if folk remember, many of us could not understand why he was dropped. Now it seems it was because he told Adkins what he thought of him?
When he first arrived he showed much promise of what we now know of him as fact. Many also fail to see his versatility of long ball, short ball, space creation and more. He has not been lucky to score that many goals this season, it is because he makes many moves into the box at the right time.
He is classed as a right wing back or full back and whilst you have to have some guidance of discipline of formation in a team, it is also about knowing when to break that formation that can create panic in an opponents defence. He has done that brilliantly this campaign and long may it continue.
It is so hard to separate players during a season like this because once you start to think about an individual player you remember certain runs/passes/moves they have been involved in with a smile on your face and a glow in your heart.
We are unlikely to see any player who is classed primarily as a defender get as many goals as that for us again.
Thank you Mr Freeman and keep up the good work (after your well earned rest of course).
