Kieron Freeman - What's the crack?

Apologies first and foremost, if the answer to my question already exists somewhere on the forum. I had a quick browse before hand, as opposed to just posting in a lazy manner.

My thoughts have arisen after hearing Wilder's post match interview this evening really, an interview in which I didn't head any particular praise towards the lad. Wilder for me is a fair man and he is always out there in praise of his players, if they put the work in and do the business. Kieron Freeman for me today, was a stand out player? He wasn't the best on the field maybe, but he worked hard and kept us ticking at times, over on that side of the pitch. So naturally, listening to Wilder's post match interview and hearing praises for Luke Freeman and Ben osborn, I was somewhat perplexed to not hear Wilder give Kieron a bit of positive feedback. Of Ben Osborne and Kieron Freeman, I actually thought that Freeman was the most attacking minded and influencing player in the game? Therefore I am shocked to hear praise for one and not the other.....

Am I missing something here? Is Kieron Freeman freeloading? Is he one of the players who is no longer in Wilder's plans? I may be purely speculating, but could it be that they dont get on any more?

I get that Kieron Freeman isn't the first player on the scoresheet, he doesn't feature first team because he is being kept out and down the pecking order. But for me; all you ask for from fringe players, is that they come in and give a good account of themselves when called upon. Freeman did this today and in the context of Wilder's interview, he probably warranted a mention for his performance, along with the other aforementioned players?

You would have thought this to be quite a frustrating time for Kieron Freeman, what with him being within a sniff of international football with wales last year. This year he is being shirt blocked by a consistent performer and he's no longer in the reckoning really. Nowt he can do about it, other than crack on and wait for the opportunity.

This isn't a knock in the slightest, I don't have any sort of negativity towards the gaffer. Which to be fair, is why I am questioning whether there is something a bit more deep laying that I may be missing? Or am I just reading into everything completely wrong? And just being a complete pillock.

Sure, Baldock has his place nailed and he didn't play too well against Fylde, but I thought he put in a very commendable performance today. Lots of running in the right areas, good control, fighting for the ball. Did what was expected.

Been with us since League One remember. Not one to keep hold of when his contract goes but certainly not someone who we should slag off.

No need for a RWB on the bench when we have one in the 11. Jags is on the bench and can play any of the back 3 positions, so if Baldock goes down, Jags comes on and Basham goes out wide

I half wonder if he's not fit enough. Always struggles to recover. Not necessarily a criticism, he might just have reached his physical limit.

There was a time where he was trying to recover second half today and he was just going backwards.

Still good going forwards though. But that's not enough these days.

Don‘t really see the mystery here – it‘s not as though he name-checked everyone bar Kieron Freeman. He was specifically talking about players that had had the difficulty of joining a new club and not being in the team, which is why he singled out Luke Freeman and Ben Osborn. More than entitled to your own opinion bud and I respect it, I personally thought that Osborn looked quite out of place and exposed in that position, in the same respect that he did against AFC fylde. It most certainly isn't his most natural position and he played the first half without impact, camped deep inside his own half. It is only when we pushed on later in the second half that he came into his own, in a more natural position. He deserves praise for playing out of position though, he didn't do overly much wrong, just was'nt a stand out.

I think you're reading into things too much. Wilder is loyal to a winning team. Baldock and Freeman were of a similar level a couple of years ago, it was a straight race as to who would make that position their own and Georgio came out on top. Hes fit enough that Freeman doesn't ever get a chance to prove otherwise as well.

My favourite player in the league one promotion season.

As many have mentioned its purely down to the performances of Baldock keeping him out of the team. Would walk into half the the teams in the championship in my opinion, especially from an attacking point of view.

I think as fans we're a bit harsh on K Freeman too. For some reason when I think of him all I can think of him is that he's a defensive liability with fitness issues. But actually, every time I watch him play in something resembling our first team, he's fine & a better attacking outlet than Baldock.

He was good today. He has a great understanding of what the strikers want into them in the box. He particularly has a great relationship with Sharp. I wouldn't mind if he had to play in any of our next half a dozen games against the 'weaker' sides in the division.

It'd be easy to claim that he's shit. Freeman is off the pace due to lack of opportunity.

It'd be easy to allude to his attitude, as had been done so earlier in his career. Freeman has kept his council and kept on grafting.

You've got to love the bloke for everything he was in the L1 promotion, he was at his swashbuckling best. He didn't cement his place in the Champions and has tailed off since.

I think he's a useful understudy, if he had a way of getting match fit. Hence Wilder's bemoaning of the lack of a reserves league.

That was excellent. First time they’d really managed to get space past Osborn, and it was a crucial header from Freeman. He isn’t as good defensively as Baldock, but he’s really not a bad backup. But it is a position in the squad we can probably upgrade on when the opportunity arises.
