Rugby League legend Kevin Sinfield is starting one of his 7 marathons in 7 days at Bramall Lane on Thursday 4th December. He sets off at 8.40 am.

Sinfield has raised over £10 million with his five previous challenges for those impacted by Motor Neurone Disease, inspired by his friend and former team mate Rob Burrow. Part of that fundraising has been invested into research at University of Sheffield’s Institute for Translational Neuroscience (SITraN).

The public are asked to come out and support the challenge as it visits towns and villages but the public are not allowed to join the run for everyone’s safety and protection.

Commenting on the latest challenge, Sinfield said, “I am pleased to be coming to Sheffield this year. We went through South Yorkshire back in 2021 but it was in the middle of the night! I know that Sheffield is a sports mad city whether that is cricket as the home of Michael Vaughan and Joe Root, rugby with union and league teams, snooker or the world class training facilities, not to mention being the home to the Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday. I am sure we will get a warm welcome from the people of the steel city.”

The route will start at the home of Sheffield United at Bramall Lane before visiting Abbeydale, the home of Sheffield Collegiate CC, then Sheffield Tigers, passed Hillsborough and calling at the English Institute of Sport.

I went on a British and Irish Lions tour down to New Zealand in 2017 with my Union mates. In a bar in Auckland and bumped into him. It doesn’t seem that unusual however Yorkshire Carnegie who later went bust used to be Leeds Tykes, Kev played for them in 15/16 in a one season union deal, genuinely such a top bloke and down to earth, happy to chat although back then prior Rob’s MND he wasn’t known to the British and Irish Lions and NZ Union lot and did admit I was the 1st person that recognised him. He was with his non rugby playing mates IMG_0084.webp

What a great bloke he is.

He, alongside Rob Burrow are the only reasons I achieved a lifetime dream a couple of years ago, when I ran 26.2 miles for the first and only time and raised a bit of cash for MND.

Even though I raised the money, and put it hours and hours of training to raise money for a fantastic course. What I got back from it is something I’ll never be able to put a price on.

I'm guessing he's not bothered about it personally, but if anyone deserves a knighthood it's Kevin Sinfield.
Totally agree. But what do we do in this country is give a gong to the likes of David Beckham.

Kevin Sinfield has been instrumental in building a new hospital!!

Bloody hell, what more does a guy need to do.

But as you say he's probably not bothered.

Yes but Beckham has been cosying
g up to the royals for years basically begging it..where as you have people like kev and John burkhill just making it their mission in life to help others not expecting any award...they're far more deserving in my opinion.

Yeah but how long did he queue up to pay his respects to the Queen?

I work at the University, every year we do a sponsored big walk in the Peak District for a different special cause usually it's at least a 23 mile or more walk.

The other year it was The MNDA charity, half way round I was struggling with both of my knees and blisters.

Then I thought about the fantastic work Kevin has done and what Rob went through, it gave me the inspiration and strength to carry on and complete the walk.

He does truly deserve a knighthood.

Great story Zippy, hope the run went a bit better than the one in your avatar picture !

But neither have done so much for this country as Sir Sadiq Khan

The man is as hard as iron but with a very caring thoughtful side. I read his book a while ago, what he has done to get the top of his game and what he has done since would make many “Men” shirk responsibility. He is one to admire.

Jimmy Savile did that, and he got a knighthood.

I'm not usually interested in the knighthood conversation - people like Jacob Rees-Mogg and the usual line up of actors indicate to me that he honours system is a load of bobar, but I'd be right behind Kevin Sinfield getting one.

If I were an actor myself, and had to look misty-eyed for the camera, the image I'd bring to mind would be Kevin Sinfield carrying Rob Burrow over the line at the end of the Leeds marathon. He's a fucking legend.

It’s because he played league not union and a male not female

the biggest disgrace was how he was ignored by the BBC's sports personality of the year

knighthood, he should be a Lord
I know going off topic a bit but since the passing of John Prescott, other than Alan Sugar there aren't that many "working-class" born Lords, Kevin Sinfield would add a different perceptive to life in general and a fresh face. The Lords views on culture, media, and sport could have a good person onboard.

Michelle Mone?
