Apart from you of course who it appears seems to be the only 'fan' to see through this ploy and want the club to be run 'properly'?

As a fan I'd love us to keep Berge but financially if we are offered a decent amount of money for him (I can't quantify this but my opinion is that in excess of £20m is a good deal for someone who has hardly set the world alight in a relegated team and will be worth around £15m in the accounts) and it allows us to bring in good players then it might be a good thing to do.

I apologise if I am just being a 'backward retarded Sheffield fuckwit' but to me it makes no sense carrying the cost of a player we can't afford if we can cash him in satisfactorily.

Who said anything about Berge ?

And anything over £20 million ?????

Really ?
You'd take £20 million and 1p
Lose £2.5 million

And then lecture me about financial stability for the club

You have just proven my original point

We wouldn’t be losing anything. His contract has been amortised down to about to around £15m so £20m would represent a profit.

I would definitely take £20m and his wages off the books, he’s been crocked half the season and did very little since his transfer to justify what we paid.

Yeah OK
Signed for £22.5 million
Paid about £2 million in salary

£15 -20 million sale = Loss

And if in some weird way its a profit we've got Genks sell on fee to consider

We paid £22.5m, when you buy a player you pay for them over the life of the contract so we’ve had 18 months worth of ‘value’ out of him. He’s therefore ‘cost’ £7.5m so far (he’s on a 4.5 year contract).

His value in the accounts is £15m so if we sell him for £20m we’ve made £5m profit (granted there might be a sell on fee to Genk to come out of this).

Wages are an operating cost so are irrelevant in any profit/loss calcs on his sale.

Yes, I get it
So why do players move on for more than they were bought for then ?

Selling him for £15 - 20 million is bleeding stupid

Their clubs are competent in negotiation and/or the player is worth more than they were initially bought for.

Based on what I’ve seen of Berge in a Blades shirt I’d say £15m was optimistic.

In this stupid world though I’d be unhappy if we got less than £20m and someone might be daft enough to pay more. We paid more for Brewster so anything goes.

Berge will 100% not be here next season. We need to raise £40m and he’s our most saleable asset.
Club wants to sell and that’s why there are so many rumours/links in the press.
If we get £35m it’s great business for us, personally I think it will be more like £25m but that’s still ok.
That leaves one or two more to sell to get to the £40m, hopefully we keep Egan but I’d be happy to sell McBurnie if it gets us the cash in we need.
Mousse will also be off the wage bill one way or another, but more than likely we will get nothing for him.

“All of our players have relegation clauses in their contracts. That puts us in a stronger position financially.”

From Bettis today.

I couldn’t possibly say how I know, or id have to kill you 😊
Fair enough

Unless you need the money.

Profit/loss is almost irrelevant most of the time, cash flow never is!

So you're the clubs finance director now and you have a perfect handle on our cash flow situation?

Maybe have a chat with Mr Chansiri as he shares your beliefs about not selling players to assist cash flow, and it's working well for him.

Don't get your knickers in a twist

I think it's pretty common knowledge that we're not in a desperate need to sell situation

Why would we be ?

We've just taken £250 million + over two seasons in the Prem with parachute payments to come

So far HRH has not disappointed when it's comes to finance, and I don't think anyone is in for a bargain just for the sake of pulling a few bob back.
If he go's I think it will be the managers choice, not the boards...... 👍

we shouldnt accept anything less than 25m for berge otherwise he stays interesting one is egan i would say 20m minimum for him yet a poster on here last week said we would be lucky to get 10m for him all about opinions i suppose

As the man with a wooden leg said its all a matter of opinion

"The Sun" today reporting that Arse have a 35mill offer for Berge but want to pay it over 4 years, United are stalling for a bigger down payment and a more favourable deal.

I'd be very disappointed if we sell Berge without seeing the "real" Berge.

CW would rarely put a square peg in a round hole, but Berge was always played in a role that was new to him (he said that himself). He's far and away our most talented player and I feel Jokanovic will be able to get the best of of him. Same with Brewster. Play to their strengths and we'll have an exciting season ahead of us.
