Just how many errors are there in that article?
1. Verde signed in 1979, not 1978
2. He wasn't signed with Sabella, Sabella signed the year before
3. Given that he wasn't playing for United then, he didn't play against River Plate in 1978
4. Verde's departure had nothing to do with the Falklands' War, which was in 1982 , not 1981. Verde played a reserve game at the start of 80-81 then disappeared from view, with his contract being cancelled in summer 81.
5. Sabella never played at Halifax
6. The cup in question was the County Cup, not the YHC
7. There was never a County Cup game that attracted 50,000.
8. There is the aprocryphal story abot Verde being told he could keep the CC after United won it in 1980, but it was not "never seen again". It was played for in 1981 and 1982 and on one or two occasions since.
I appreciate it's a humorous article, but the writer appears to know only that Verde played for us around a similar time as Sabella and has just made the rest up!
