Please stop bringing up this disgrace of a football man, the thought of him makes my blood boil.
There are Zero fond memories of him, he was a disaster and the beginning of the end in that he created the foundations for relegation.
Zero tactical nous
Zero player development
Zero man management skills
Zero player spotting ability
Zero loyalty
A complete disaster, and to cap it off was a bully and a nasty piece of work.
I put him up there as the main reason we went down and had the huge task of rebuilding in league one. Only Robson had bigger playing budgets than him, and at least he was trying to change the style of play away from Warnock hoof!
I can’t believe he’s made a living from the game.

Pass me that ‘like’ jar. I’m going to empty it.

Completely ballsed up the Burnley play-off final by going long against the best centre backs in the division - this after playing Preston off the park in the semi-final with good football.

Nail on head squarely hit mate.

Watched how long ball failed in two league games against Burnley and their centre halves, bucked the trend and played some nice football at Deepdale in particular, then reverted to the failed method in the final.

Bizarre and clownesque.

Our hoof failed against Burnley when we had Henderson up front. If it doesn’t work with him, how the fuck was it going to work with Craig Shitting Beattie?

Fear of failure can drive you but too much can hold you back. He had far too much.

The only time he did well in my book was when he first stepped in. Played with wingers and went for it. As soon as he got a chance to make it his team it was all down hill. The squad he had was more than good enough to get promoted.
I remember him saying pre season saying something like "last season we had to go for it but we don't have to try and win every game next season" and this pearler " I wish we had 11 Monty's!" That's when I started to worry! :-)

It was worse than that. It was something like it was too risky playing like that all season, I can’t remember the exact words but I do remember it pissed me off at the time. He just wanted to nick wins, our squad was much better than that. If we’d taken risks we could have made top two but he was confident we could nick enough games to make sure we got in the playoffs.

Compare everything he did with what Wilder has done; recruitment, tactics, man management and you can see how bad he was.

Kevin's first career was at General Motors, where he designed and patented an anti-lock brake system that received international acclaim. "That might have lead to a continued technical career, but I had the itch to broaden my career on as many fronts as possible," Kevin explained. He later joined his brothers at Bristol Technology where he worked for 10 years. Today, Kevin serves as vice president of sales and marketing for Nerac, Inc., a company that provides intellectual property and scientific and technical research consulting services to companies worldwide.

Quite something to do all that and manage a career as a professional sports coach for over 30 years. People need to get off his back

I once attended a sportsman dinner with Blackwell. He explained how he was forced by McCabe to sell the better players as we had to balance the budget. He was quite bitter about lt as he knew the players he was allowed to bring in were not of the same quality. Sometimes luck with when you start a job can go a long way to decide your destiny. That's not to say he wasn't shite mind 🥺
There is no doubt that he was forced to sell players against his wishes. Just like I’m sure if you asked CW he would have preferred not to have sold Brooks, DCL, Adams, Ramsdale et al. CW didn’t complain about it though, he just got 2 promotions in 3 years instead!

For half of semi-pro's career in management he was at clubs for one reason and one reason only that was to sell players and cut costs. He was never a manager he don't have the brains for that his only tactic was boot it long and hard and chase after it. I will never forgive him for that game against the pigs when we went in at HT 3-0 up, everyone in the ground including the pigs were wondering if it would end 7-0 or 8-0 and that cunt went defensive and let the pigs get back to 3-2.
Grunt Grant in pigs goal did save them though. Morgs header kop end late on.

You could say that about nearly every manager we've had for the last 40-odd years. As others have said, some people just aren't cut out to be managers. I'm still amazed when I see Brian Kidd at Man. City - I well remember him snoozing through matches at the back of the director's box just in front of where I sit.

We've been spoilt with CW - most managers are pretty shite but have had a 'purple patch' which keeps them in employment.

Sometimes I honestly wonder if some footy teams could man manage itself without an actual manager..

Semi-Pro was appalling. Utterly and completely dreadful. He should have been tarred and feathered and run out of town at sunset. He should then have been tied to a horse and dragged back at sunrise. Then tarred and feathered again. A completely incompetent, despicable hoofer.

Post of the Year.

Early candidate for Post of the Century.

Possibly millennium.

I remember witnessing first hand how he spoke to Paddy Kenny when he'd just signed for us, saying, no yelling at him that he'd send him back to Bury if he didn't....
In my eyes Blackwell just made himself look a complete twat because if that was supposed to motivate Kenny.....????
Bully technique not motivational.
what did he threaten Kenny with? I missed the point there

It was a pre-season game at Scarborough and Blackwell was doing warm up shots at Paddy Kenny, who was doing nothing wrong, but Blackwells' idea of motivating Paddy was to threaten to send up back to Bury (where we'd just bought him from) if he didn't perform!
