Touching on how young Che Adams appears to have come into his own with the experienced likes of Sharp, Sammon and Edgar around him it seems an ideal opportunity to get some others in there as I think it would only benefit the.

Kennedy is injured (what's new I know) but when he gets back to full fitness I think the would benefit from a steady Edgar around the place. Reedy has a peach of a ball on him and I think he would come of age for having the experience and movement of Sammon and Sharp in front of him. Diego is raw, unexposed and unproven with us but surely no finer opportunity exists for a lad of his age to have proven goalscorers at the club to watch, play alongside and learn from.

The club always speak of the ambition to take academy lads and turn them into home grown first teamers, Che is thriving at the minute and I think some of the other youngsters could as well. The most obvious being Reedy, I think the middle of the park are yet to cement themselves and Reed could exploit this and earn himself a shirt.

Pinchy, where are you?

The Green Man wants a word. ;)

Fully agree about trying these players...... once we are confirmed as champions. Until then I only want Adkins to pick what he considers his strongest side for every league game. Cup games he could pick the whole under 18 team for all I care. Given the length of the season and the probabilities of injuries and suspensions they may well get a game in the league before then anyway.

Tbf Che,.though young, is nothing to do with our Academy, credit where it's due, in this case somewhere around Ilkeston presumably.

Reed is clearly featuring in Adkins' plans atm. I hope he continues to earn his place on merit.

DDG, if Juventus can spare him, is prolly best off out on loan, though maybe not at York or Northampton.

Ok skip the bit about Che.

Kennedy looked the part and, knees permitting, may compete for a place on merit.

I'm not saying throw them all in a the expense of the first team, that would be a bit silly. You have to play your strongest XI every single game, Clough never understood that concept.

Based on our CM performances on Saturday I think Reedy has as good a chance as ever to stake his claim this season and with the likes of Sammon, Che and Sharp around him, I think he would thrive.

Reed I think should and will get plenty of minutes this season, especially when the games start piling up and if Wallace is struggling with 2 games a week, would probably avoid playing him against the more physical teams for now though.

Kennedy could do well, but I'd wait and see how well the defence does with Edgar in the team now. If we can get a few clean sheets and things are looking good at the back, I wouldn't want to go changing it other than when the games already won. If it's still no good over next few matches then I'd want another CB in anyway rather than wait for Kennedy to get fit.

As for Diego, just can't see a place for him in this team as there's too many better options atm. Get him out on loan again to get some more playing time.

I'd argue Clough understood his best eleven but you could reasonably argue didn't know how to get the best out of them often enough.

They'll be opportunities for them to prove themselves this season and what they'll appreciate is that to get a berth in the first team they have to be better than the first teamer they replace. Not as good, not nearly as good, better.
If anyone's not sure what I mean, the perfect example is Mason at Spurs v Forest in the cup. He came on as sub when Forest were on top and turned it around through a forceful and energetic performance that really stood out. Or, closer to home, Che.

In therery sound ok , but in pracricse not a prayer . The club is serious of trying to acheive promoton , therfore need solid proven players every game . We cannot use the first team as a experiment , learning curve or create high risk . This would only create failure , which is not on the agenda.

I don't want this to turn into an argument about Clough but if he knew his best XI then why did he feel the need to swap and change them every game mate?

I don't know, I'm not him but if I were to hazard a guess he had a philosophy of picking different players for different opposition. It's not a popular theory round here but Clough didn't get that much wrong. 2 cup semi finals and saving us from relegation in his credit and not getting promoted the next season in debit.

Also if memory serves me right didn't all the players you talk about get blooded into the first team by Clough?

Clough was OK but ultimately failed.

This new bloke is better on paper but be under no illusions that the gun is loaded in the drawer if we fail to go up.

Thats a fair comment, but he wasn't in the Robson envelope as some would have you believe. I think it is sad that we have potentially one of the best managers in recent years (Adkins) and statements like that are being bandied about but it appears that is the way of the modern day football fan. I think he gets 2 seasons but then again I would have given Clough another go. Guess I'm in the minority.

With Edgar, Collins, and potentially another centre-half (plus McEveley), the ideal situation is that Kennedy returns to fitness and isn't needing to be immediately thrown in – as happened last season. It was where we were trying to play him twice in a week that he started to break down.

I quite like Reed in a 5 man midfield (similarly scougall) but I think he lacks the physique needed for a 442 in this league. Now if Che can let him in on his secret of how to bulk up ...:)

No need for pinchy now after this post :)

I'd have kept Clough for this season but the longer we stay in this division the shorter the fuse is for each manager.
Adkins has to live with the fact that this is year five and year six in the third is just not an option for the club or him even if the first four years were nowt to do with him.

Sam Morsy is a similar build to Reed and didn't do too bad against us Saturday!

Of course it's an option. If we don't go up how will sacking Adkins improve our chances in year 6? It won't. So we go into year six with a new guy who probably isn't as good. He fails. We sack him?

I know it's only from Wiki, but:-

Louis Reed
5' 8"
Weight: 132 lbs

Sam Morsy
5' 9"
Weight: 174 lbs

So if Reedy puts on about 1" in height and 3 stone he may be comparable to Morsy ;)

Never said sacking Adkins was the way forwards if we don't go up, was pointing out that he's probably only got one season in the third to get promotion based on the failure of others and the loaded gun in the board room desk drawer.

Barring any disasters, I don't think that's likely.
