Hi, Rovers fan wanting to inform you about Treacy. I thought (with a little glee) that I might dampen your hopes - but a cursory glance through this board and there's not much to dampen, I see! But cynicism is a necessary protection for football fans - and certainly the case here with Mr Treacy.

He's Irish, he's a left winger and he's played a few games for Rovers first team. He was one of those youth players that people were getting excited about when he just a teenager playing for the U18 side.

HOWEVER:

Sadly, he ain't that good. At the moment, anyway.

Strengths:

Pace - when he was first promoted to first team duties, initially by Mark Hughes, and then in a more concerted fashion last season, by the hapless Paul Ince, Treacy looked quite promising. We have a trundling Norwegian boyband escapee called Gamst who plays on our left wing. Treacy came on for him and started doing things that we hadn't see for a long time - he actually got the ball, pushed it down the line, ran past the full back AND crossed the ball. We fans were like, WOW!

Here endeth the Strengths.

Weaknesses

Injuries - Only one thing has matched Treacy's early hype and that's his injury record. He seemed to always get injured when he was a reserve player. Last season, however, his body seemed to hold together for a reasonable length of time - so maybe he's over his ailments.

No vision - Think Keith Gillespie, without the passing acumen. After Treacy's useful cameos, he got a few starts for Rovers. It was then that his limitations were fully exposed. When on the ball, if he cannot run down the wing, he is at a loss as to what to do. So, he usually goes for goal from wild angles and distances - and misses. Lack of vision is his biggest weakness.

Cannot use his right foot - I feel harsh citing this as a weakness as many good left wingers can't use their right foot but you can't help noticing it with Treacy - and getting frustrated, when he dawdles on the ball and a simple right footed pass is on.

Big Time Charlie - Treacy thinks that he's special and is known to sulk when his specialness is not given due respect. Allegedly, he lacks humility.

Thin - He may have bulked up from last season but from what we saw, he lacked strength and was easily discouraged by a kick from a full back.

Conclusion:

Poor man's Keith Gillespie. I read that you might be signing Julian Gray or Glenn Little, so perhaps you won't see much of Treacy. My gut feeling is that he won't make an impression with your team.

However, I would just say in service to fairness, Treacy has received good reviews from the Ireland U21 management (likened to Kevin Doyle by one person) and was, at one stage, a fairly regular goalscorer for our reserves. Perhaps, he's got some potential in him that he is yet to show - and maybe Blackwell will get the best out of him.

We'll see!

Welcome to the forum and thanks for that.

It should be enough for most Blades fans to write him off before he plays for us!

:D:D:D

Yeah, thanks for that, mate. Loads of fans will write him off after reading that SF. :D

Thanks for the comments. I really hope that Treacy does do well for you. I will certainly keep an eye out for his and United's progress. The Premier League gets a bit boring with its blanket media coverage thrusting the most disgustingly crap player into your life, so that you feel that you know more about Richard Dunne or whoever, than anyone should have to know. It's quite refreshing to follow the teams that Rovers loanees go out to. It's a bit like supporting a lower league team, without abandoning your first love - basically, it's adultery, but it's quite fun.

:hello:

At the moment, United haven't really been playing fantastically in preseason... so exactly how we're going to end up playing and who is going to be playing where is open to a lot of debate. Basically, everyone should be playing for a place because those places could go to anyone at the minute.

Apparently Little and Gray's trials have now finished and a decision was due to be made as to their futures this week but as yet, we haven't heard anything.

I should imagine all the new lads will get a run out at Bury today.

Great posting, given all the doom and gloom negativity on most of the Blades sites, this should feed all the moaners nicely! If your posting was intended to set the level of expectancy at zero, you have succeeded.

Ahhh... but if the whingers are going to expect nothing in the first place, they can only be pleasantly surprised at something :)

You'll find we're a board inhabited by mostly light-hearted cynics but that said, Treacy did have a quiet game today.

Welcome to the forum by the way GB :hello:

I'm not sure what he put on the end of his right leg tonight then mate?!

Take a bow son! :D

Er maybe take a look at the goal he scored for us tonight on sky sports news.
Would you slag off a few more of our players please

what else did he do tonight alien?

answers on a postage stamp please........

He played some intelligent balls and made some good runs. Just like he has every game so far.

he was poor aside from his wonder goal. looks like he needs an extra half second on the ball.

Disagree totally with you. One of the reasons we struggled was they closed us down so fast in every dept that it was hard for some of the players to get the ball under control and they ended up with the hot potato syndrome. Treacy got it under control best of the lot.
It's the guy behind him I'm not impressed with Taylor. Maybe he needs time to settle in.

He was better tonight but still only average the goal apart.
What's worrying is that although we can give him back if needs be we've got his replacement for keeps. Reid is exactly what you get when you go for players on the cheap.

i agree with lenners!! reid didn't get past his man once and looked like a poor version of cotterill

Have either of you seen Reid pre-season?

He looks our best signing so far based on those games. A little unfair to write him off after the short time he's had on the pitch since.

not seen him pre season, but did he impress against anyone of championship quality? looks like a poor option from the bench.

I noticed tonite allrite.

Others have impressed in pre-season games previously and not matched it through the season..... might be down to not being given a chance by Blackwell though.

Either way, fantastic goal from Treacy.

Obviously. I just think it's a little harsh to be writing off what was probably our most exciting looking signing pre-season, after just a few minutes on the pitch this season.

It's just reminiscent of Hendrie impressing in pre-season and not being given a chance - thus not being able to prove himself.
