Keith Edwards on radio sheffield

I respect the opinion of Keith Edwards and believe he calls it as it is. It's not his fault it's usually awful to watch and to commentate on. So many games this season have been terrible to watch and I would not envy anybody having to paint a picture for radio listeners.

After so many years RS must be thinking of a fresh approach as inevitably any commentator repeats the same things month after month unless things change.

What Edwards needs to refresh his delivery is a good team performing up to expectations. I don't think he expects too much actually.

That's true. It's an unenviable job, trying to commentate on t'radio. If Edwards is a bit amateurish, it's totally in keeping with Radio Sheffield.

Edwards is OK. I just wish he'd get some chalk on 'is boots. :)

I can't stand listening to Edwards. I am fine with constructive criticism but he goes way too far. I used to give him the benefit of the doubt - he is Kieth Edwards after all - but then....

I watched a couple of games on terrible internet feeds with the volume off and Radio Sheffield on and it was like he was watching a COMPLETELY different game. His expectations were astonishingly high and he seemed to be totally ignorant of the fact that football has changed immensely since he played.

Just my 2p worth.

My post was not to be critical of Keith more of his style of play with today's footballers.

Against Bristol Rovers? Came up in a recent thread. Also saluted the Kop before putting the ball in the net. And if memory serves Keith took out the keeper and a defender, Pele only took out the keeper, and, like you said, didn't even score.

Is there any video of Keith's goal?
No, it was in the days when games were only filmed if they were on TV. I remember it well, partly because my mates dad told us to remember it as we wouldn't see many like that.

Don't remember him saluting the kop and as I recall it, it was in the BL end. He was being closed down by both the keeper and the defender and if he taken a touch it would have taken him into them. So he dummied it and ran round them.

It was, without doubt, genius. For that, his unerring finishing when one on one (yes, he missed one once and the whole kop was stunned) and his free kicks, I can forgive him his moaning on RS.
What I can't forgive, are those Blades who pass off his opinion on message boards and FH as their own.

I do the same when it is Rob Staton commentating.
At least he is commentating on whats happening !!!
When Edwards gets the floor you may as well go and mash a cup of tea because despite the whoooing or cheering going off in the back ground you will not have a clue whats happening on the field.
I just wish he would save his long winded comments for the summing up at half/full time instead of rushing off for a pint and a pie,
And it's the same old same old every time, "In my day." Monty python or what....

PS
And you can't make anyone a striker, their born that way....

To be fair to Keith Edwards , he tells it , how he sees it , and he is a bit of a institution . Don't always hear him because being at the match . For some reason being a older blade , he always brings back good memories for me .

He says it like many of us would say it , as a fan , when your heart can rule your head.

We have enough sit on the fence , PC commentators on the box , never mind having them on the wireless.

UTB

Can't argue with that Bos but although I don't miss any home games I don't get to the away matches so have to rely on Blades world/ RS for the away commentary's till I get to see the video, and though I think it would be magic to hear Kieth's comments on the video he drives me wild on the radio.....

When Keith Edwards is on I change to the opposing radio commentary - He was a great player but a really bad commentator (that simple)
Will try that next time, which will be the Orient game

Took me 90 minutes to get out of local car park. 90 more minutes than I needed in that dump. I should have parked near the Outpost pub like I planned.
The Outpost !! First time I went to Oakwell probably in the 80's we parked there ,had to battle all the way down that winding road to the ground and all the way back up after where it really went mental ,proper stand up fighting. The only place I can remember the same intensity of real scrapping was at Lincoln.

It was a great goal - and Tony Pritchett described it as a fluke in The Star and Green 'Un.

Crikey. That sounds like some place in the frontier land, beyond the law, where pioneers were men of steel and so were their wives.

The Outpost. I presume you could get blankets and an ounce of chewing backy there as well as your dried beans and coffe grinds.
