I remember at Halifax last year ,Wilders first game ? He looked like he really couldn't be bothered ,and thought that's the last we will see of you.

I think Wilder had basically told him that he wasn't required, part of the cull, but probably less costly to see out his contract. Shame really as I know from my sources that he's been working his socks off.

Loves players that "work their socks off" does our Neil.
 
I saw his name on the team sheet but assumed it was a different one, can't believe he's still at the club. Good luck to the guy.

Dear god what a motley crew.....it brings me out in a cold sweat casting my mind back to some of the dross we've had to endure in recent years. I still have the occasional nightmare about about McEverley now. It comes to something that a mediocre centre midfielder had to fill in at left back because the two specialists in that position were so dire! Nothing against Wallace, he looked ok in a couple of games, but I'd be staggered/disappointed if he's anywhere near the first team squad this year.

I remember his debut at Fleetwood away, when it was fucking freezing, and he was excellent. Looked a superb crosser of a ball from the left (might have set up United's goal from memory? In a 1-1 draw?)

A pathetic excuse like that just won't wash on here.

If you'd been a 'proper Blade' you'd have made yourself born earlier.

Missing out on Darlo and Leicester also go on the charge sheet and you are almost looking like a Wendy at this rate.
 
Does anyone know what the crack is with Wallace? He seems to be firmly embedded with the U-23s this preseason,

Given the other listed players have basically been shelved, it seems a bit odd.

Think he's most likely on his way
 
He played at CB for the U23s at Oxford City on Saturday and did well. He's certainly filled out a lot - so much so that I didn't recognise him got a while. He looked composed on the ball and strong in the tackle. A real shame for him that he hasn't kicked on at the club after his impressive start.

From what i know he is firmly not a first team option this season. He has one left on his contract and will play for the 23s when picked.

Where has he been larkymasher ?

Was he injured for all of last season,or was it the last 2 seasons,major shock to see him playing at Sheffield FC couple of weeks back,thought he had long departed our club

He went on a season long loan to Fleetwood last season after failing to impress CW in preseason.

Struggled to get in their first team and only made a few appearances for what they call their reserves. One year left on his contract given to him by Adkins.
 
Wallace set up on the left hand side of a back three at Linfield last night. As noted above, he's done the CB role a few times in Development pre season.

The difference between Wallace and (for eg) Done & Brayford, is that he is still in his Development phase. IMHO it's correct to play him at U23 Development level if he's good enough for the side. Until Semple is fit, we're a bit light there anyway.

Wasn't he given a 5 year contract by Adkins? I remember thinking at the time it was insane to give him such a contract after a few decent games
 
The last time that I saw him play was at Peterborough away the season before last. He had an excellent game but if memory serves me right he got injured by a terrible "hospital pass" from McCleverly resulting in a bone-crunching tackle from the opposition and having to go off injured.

To be fair though, perhaps it was not a good game to judge anyone's ability as Connor Sammon looked a cracker of a target man, scoring and setting Billy up with 2 goals.

Isn't that what many are wanting us to do with Brooks, only with bigger wages involved?

I don't think you can compare the potential talents of Brooks and Wallace. Brooks has just won the player of the tournament at the U20s Toulon Tournament and has already attracted from Premiership clubs. Wallace had a few ok games at left back in League One

To be honest i can't ever see the club handing out a 5 year deal to a lad from Ilkeston. I am sure it was 2/3 years but could be wrong.

Brookes is totally different. He has made his mark with England, at a poor level tournament but none the less he has made a mark. His cameo performances this preseason have been very good and after watching him all last season he was a stand out player with our highly sought after U23s.
We should be happy that our club is now in a position to give young prospects a reasonable contract for a good few years. It shows the lad that the club rate him but it also insures the club a good fee for a player who has a lengthy contract. If that means Brookes would go for £5m instead of £500k then it can only be a good thing.
Lets be honest, the lad will not be on ridiculous money if he signs a new contract but it could be enough to make him think twice before joining a Premiership U23s side.

he did play 13 games in the England youth set up at U16 and U17 levels.

Seriously, can we get a few things straight about Brooks.

The U-20s Toulon Tournament happened at the same time as the U-20s World Cup. DCL scored in the world cup final. Brooks wasn't considered good enough to be picked in the squad

Who says Brooks has attracted the Premiership clubs?

Wallace has played competitive league football. Brooks hasn't.

Yes, Brooks is a great talent but I wish people would stop over-hyping him and give him a chance to ease himself into league football.

Wallace looked like a very good prospect at one point. I'm not sure where it went wrong but there may yet be a way back for him. He really needs to go for it because he won't get another chance, it'll be non league for him.
 



He was very unlucky to lose his place when he did.

He's not pulled up any trees and looked to be going through the motions to me when I've seen him so far this pre-season.
