This comes across as a challenge to the board come what may at the end of the season.

Very much a repeat of Charles Green and im walking.

It's sensible to hang on to as many of the better players as we can.

I can see Berge going, although God knows what sort of fee.

The main one I'm worried about is Fleck. OK he's out again at the moment but not because of an injury. So when he returns to the team and if he keeps up the improved form than in the first half of this season I think there is likely to be a few bottom half PL clubs bidding for him. Same with Bogle, if he carries on and scores a couple more then I think it's possible he will have some interest.

We may be slightly lucky with JOC being injured and he also may not get back to being the same player he was pre-injury so I'd say its too early to say with him yet.

Egan and Berge I think are 50/50, can't tell if either there will or won't be clubs interested in them?

Even though we'll have parachute payments (which we've already borrowed against BTW) I don't have the faith at the moment that we'll replace with enough quality should some or all of the aforementioned five be sold.

Enough quality to do what ? Come back first time or build a side capable of being promoted and staying up.

Berge will likely go. I think that's a given.

I'm struggling to think of many clubs from the top flight coming after our players.

I could see Sean Dyche sniffing around a few if they're cheap (Stevens, Baldock, Egan, Fleck).

I think in terms of other teams it would depend on if they lose players. So, West Ham have quality defenders but I can see Ogbana going so they might look to Egan.

Someone going up may chance their arm on Brewster if he's unhappy playing in the Championship.

Enough quality in that they aren't inferior to the ones we've sold but you have made a good point however. One of the reasons why I'm doubting is because this club doesn't have that many examples of replacing adequately whenever it has sold it's better players. However I'd like to think we are a different club these days than the selling club we've always been but we shall see won't we? But I won't blame the club if they do sell this summer because those players have shown some competence at PL level although this was mainly last season.

As for your point "Come back first time or build a side capable of being promoted and staying up" the two don't necessarily have to be separate do they?

If we sign players capable of helping us bounce straight back (and we do) then during that summer window following promotion why not look at signing their longer term replacements/competition to try and establish us longer term, just as every club tries to evolve their squad?

Doesn't sound like a challenge unless you're choosing to buy into the rhetoric that there is an unreasonable ongoing issue between board and manager.
Which according to those doomsayers means that Chris is already walking. In which case, why is he bothering?
To me it sounds like challenge to the players, agents and other clubs that no one is going on the cheap.

I'm not sure what is the main driver in us suddenly selling everyone if a bid comes in. Of course all offers should be looked at evaluated and assessed but we've not blown the budget in promotion so I don't think we're desperate to sell to balance our books. We've been very cautious, certainly in regards to the wage bill which is what really pulls clubs down, and this has been regularly criticised by some. Wilder has also said that players contracts contain wage reduction clauses so we do not put ourselves at risk financially. No fans is clearly a concern as is the reduction in revenues, but do we really think we'll panic in Y1? I also think due to the type of recruitment we've undertaken we will not have players bolting for the door and causing trouble to ensure they get through it. We don't have players with the mentality of Maupay, and yes that may have cost us on the pitch, but there are also advantages and reasons why we've done what we have.

"if it makes financial sense" - now there is a statement that is as long as it is broad.

Precisely.

It makes "financial sense" if I stop eating and drinking

I find it fascinating people will read into it whatever their own thoughts were beforehand. Apparently this is a challenge to the board? Maybe it was agreed when mentioning budgets and targets and is prudent business sense?

Agreed. I was reassured by him talking about next season rather than seeing this as confirmation he's fallen out with the board.

That makes sense and the board should agree with him if we have ambition to bounce back.
We shall find out soon enough !!

I think they've locked horns without a shadow of a doubt. But I don't think a fallout is a bad thing as it shows both are invested and care.
You shouldn't have one party getting all their own way, especially if they're an employee, but you need to be able to work together.

It looks to me they've had a frank exchange of views, they may not still agree but the ultimate decision rests with The Prince and Wilder has accepted that and is cracking on.
If it means the manager has been told he has to accept more assistance on transfers, and in return the board would increase backing, would that be such a bad thing?

Just another case where I feel bad for managers having to given non-questions a non-answer. What's he supposed to say? We all know some players will leave, and we all know we have players we'd like to keep. If someone offered £50m for Berge (not that I think they will, just hypothetically) then he's out the door. If someone offers £5m for him then he stays. And somewhere in the middle is a tough decision.

This isn't a challenge to anyone. It's the same diplomatic response every manager has to give.

Agree around Burnley sniffing, can see them looking into Egan too if Tarkovski goes

Not sure about Brewster, even a club coming up surely would see buying a striker from the Prem that didnt score a goal in that division would be crazy - he needs a season in the Champ, whether he likes it or not.

JoC will come back too late to prove fitness and form
Bogle not done it enough to convince anyone into a bid I would guess

Point to question - following a game, everyone always comments on the reliability and ability of Bash & Goldie, yet when we get to one of these threads their names never appear??

I wash actually thinking of Bash for Burnley. Good utility player and close to home. I reckon we'd let him go for a token fee as well as a thank you. But, age is against him. 33 next season and likely wants more than a year contract, I don't think Didzy is Premier League calibre anymore sadly. He's 34 next season as well.

agree, yet they are arguably our most consistent and reliable performers - does that say more about them or the rest?

Think we will still need billy .someone will definately come in for him .regardless of his age .he will have lots to offer.a few didnt think we would need him this season.but a great player to have in squad

egan and berge are the 2 stand outs that are likely to go i agree burnley are likely suitors for egan and maybe everton berge possibly brighton or southampton unless he goes back abroad

So long as we keep Tufty /Knill and Sharp, Basham, Fleck, McGoldrick - for me the rest are replaceable...

The fees we'd get for Berge, JOC, Egan et al would be significant and enable us to build and go again. If they all stay, great, the rebuild is easier.

After this year, I'm sanguine about it.

For me the only player not replaceable is the one we've missed all season through injury. Its been proven by the number of players we've tried there. I was convinced that had O'Connell been fit this season he'd have made it into the England set up.

Dont mind Berge going, every club that goes down loses a player or two. You need too to generate funds.

I agree funds would need to be generated, but assuming the rules are still the same in the champ, a few more doors will open regarding loans too?

Going on that statement if Berge leaves it’ll be for a profit or whatever the fee is for any release clause he may have. Good positive statement from the manager.
