We are in the same boat as when the Prince came?

I think we would have been in administration before now and probably in League 2 if we had been left soley in the hands of McCabe and son.

The crowds are bewildering. I can't explain how we are getting so many when only a decade ago we were getting lower ones in a higher league

It is unbelievable really, I put a bit of it down to us attracting a large proportion of young female fans over the last 15 years or so, it's doubled the fan base, from the 80s up to about 2000 I would estimate the amount of female fans was 5-10% of a match day crowd, it's now looks closer to 40%, certainly on th Kop.

To be honest I was quite surprised by their attitude but I suppose there are only so many excuses you can give without knowing you are coming across as ridiculous. Even the usually optimistic Blade callers were slating United tonight. I think there has been a definite shift of opinion about the board from the majority of fans. We aren't at the protest stage but there is an awful lot of anger about

Well I'm just absolutely delighted that we managed to hold 10 man, high flying Oldham to a draw and avoid getting a good stuffing !! It's great that the plan is all coming together and we are managing to score an odd goal, perhaps before Xmas we may be able to manage a clean sheet eh ?!!
I'm over the moon that we're managing to cling in there in such an ultra competitive division and stay within distant sight of the runaway leaders, who's budget, stature and levels of support make it so difficult for us to compete with them.
Hopefully, come May, we will still be within striking distance of 6th place if we make a last minute unexpected surge to grasp a play-off place against the odds and we can all thank our lucky stars for this incredibly supportive and wise Board who's skilful guidance has seen us through another incredibly challenging and difficult season in this most competitive 3rd Division ! :tumbleweed:

"Keep in touch"

In the 3rd tier of football against the might of Gillingham, Walsall, Burton and Bury it's frightening how low supporters expectations have fallen.

Same old "massive" arrogance that having spent so long in this division we have a footballing-god given right to beat such clubs.

I think we've run out of money. That when the Prince came in he didn't envisage it taking longer than two seasons to go up. I think if we don't go up this season they'll be further sales and cutbacks.

No evidence for this at all, just my gut feeling.

Whilst I agree that we have no right to beat these teams because we are at their level these are all sides who have improved in the past few years whilst we are haven't. The staure of the club surely means we should have improved just as much if not more then the clubs we are up against

Yes but you have to have concrete evidence to say anything like that on here ;)

I think the same. I feel they had a very specific yearly budget and although we are failing, they didn't think it would cost more than it has and they refuse to overspend on the original budget.

Let's not forget, the only reason they are here is to make money.

The problem I have when we get asked to "wait until January" is that I know that actually means the summer as by the time we've made "significant bids" for people in January with 30 seconds of the window remaining having "been talking to targets" all the way through the month. Repeat as infinitum apart from flagship signings that we don't really need.

Apologies for the negativity and I'm sure the clappers will trot out some stats of when we sign people and Brayford this and Sharp that but you all know it will happen.

If we're needing to sell/move players on to bring players in, i could think of 5 players off the bat that we should be moving out.

Cuvelier
McNulty
Scougall
J Wallace
Woolford

"Woolford"

To be fair to Woolford, apart from the fact he has a bit of height and physical build, today, before the game, when the coaches were spraying the ball out, in various directions for the players to practice shooting, Woolford was the only one scoring on a regular basis.

No one mentions which year, are we hanging on for Jan 2016 or 2026?

For the past five years, it seems like one of the biggest clubs in the lower league have been trying to keep in touch with other clubs around the top six. On the rare occasions we managed to get in the top two, we seem to go on a losing streak so we can take up our accustomed position 6th or 7th. Always chasers, rarely pacesetters.

I have no hard evidence but given the lack of investment in key areas, loan market dithering, and something I was told today about financial matters by someone itk, I have come to the same conclusion.

Is it something along the lines that the Prince budgeted £10m to get us into the Championship and a further £15m to keep us there? Because championship clubs of our size are worth no more than £50m so he'd end up paying £25m for half a championship club, then look at either running at break even or finding new investment to take us to the PL?
Now he's worried he might end up spending all of it and still be in L1 and he doesn't know whether or not to cut and run?

Unfortunately the only result of that anger will be The Prince chucking the towel in, the £5m a year that is keeping us ticking over disappearing and seeing us back 100% in the loving arms of the McCabe family.
I find it hard to believe that a saudi businessman accepted a deal to buy a football club for a pound with the only financial outlay being he covers the 5m a year running losses

Thats crazy ,who would get involved with that ?

As I understood at the time all his money was going to be used on players.

phippsy is still insisting on this now
Maybe if it was me and mccabe had promised to wipe yhe clubs debts if i invested in the first team
Then i would do that and let him pay the interest on his loans himself

A Saudi businessman thats who , never mind all the due deligence carried out , when it comes to what we are - a football club - , he has been sold a pup , (like buying a share in a dud race horse.) Not good business for him , or for us i am afraid , when it comes to investment on where it counts , to remedy the problem - on the field of play.

The solution to give us a winning push is so transparant , i just dont think we have the finances to do anything about it , or we would have IMO

Question is when is he going to realise this ? Or has he already ?

Don't have a problem IF we have run out of money - I have a massive problem with how Adkins is shaping the team.
Falling into the same rap as Clough did - diddy men in midfield.
If we can't bring anyone in, then he needs a formula that works - what he is doing at the moment is cross your fingers and hope.
He has the players in the squad - what we appear to have like Clough is someone who seems as belligerent as Clough.
Adkins needs to work it out and if means altering his ways then so be it - from what I have heard, he and the players "lost" the fans at the end of the Oldham game - that is dangerous territory to be in after 10+ games.
