Ok things did not go to plan, but we restricted Burnley to just 2 goals against our 10 men, when we scored 5 against their 11 men at Bramall Lane.

We wont fold we have four home games coming up just get behind the players and they will produce the performances and deliver the points.

I can see why Hecky rested McAtee in favour of Norwood tonite, maybe he thought that there was a strong possibility we would lose even with McAtee in the side
so Hecky decided to keep him fresh for the next game.

Nothing to panic about.
Would have took 6 points from Norwich, Wigan and Burley as I expected 4 points, which would still have been decent.

2 more wins and 2 draws from our last 6 matches or 3 wins with 3 defeats also should easily do it
At the end of the day, promotion is all that matters.

Don't think anyone's panicking
Just a realisation that United have even managed to give it's supporters a wank promotion season. Another first for United, another first for football.
When has there ever been a wank promotion season before, at any club?
But United have almost managed it, injuries (due to lack of professionalism and fitness mostly). Shit football, boring tactics to stifle games rather than win them, transfer embargoes, financial mayhem, fake takeover, and the realisation that getting promoted, far from being a reason to celebrate is actually only the second worse thing that can happen to us, staying down being the worst.

The clappers will call you negative but I get your point.
We are between a rock & a hard place.
Stay down and fade away for a decade or two
Go up and try to keep a straight face when saying we have a chance of staying up with the obvious shortcomings of this squad.
Just keep praying for promotion followed by a new owner who can see how much needs investing over & above the PL income , just to survive.
And one who ensures that before any new players are signed , we investigate their hamstrings and their IQ.

True though, can anybody actually say they've enjoyed this season ?
They'll enjoy the end bit if it results in promotion, but My God it's been garbage, probably the worst promotion season that any club has inflicted on its fans.
A promotion season should provide the fans with a feeling of euphoria, elation, excitement, who we will sign to improve us, what good players can we bring in, a feeling that even if we fall short we will be well placed to go at it again the following year.
This promotion season doesn't give me any of that at all, there's a desperation about it.
We seem to have a choice between being mightily embarrassed every week with pretty much the same team who were mightily embarrassing the last time, or going out of business altogether.

Yes , I can honestly say I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this season .

A season in which we comprehensively thrashed the champions elect , other teams which were flying high at the time such as Blackburn and Reading and grafted out wins away from home against many decent sides .

A season in which I was privileged to watch one of the most exciting players ever to pull on a Blades shirt in Illiman Ndiaye and witness some spectacular passages of play and goals scored by him and others like McAtee and Tommy Doyle .

A season in which we have every chance of promotion to the Premier League and will play at Wembley in the semi finals of the FA Cup .

Apparently , these achievements fall well short of the standards you are looking for , in which case you may want to consider switching your allegiance to another club - one which will give instant gratification by winning trophies and being arse licked by the media .

If that should be the case ,those of us who have learnt and understand what being a Blade is all about will just have to struggle along without your valuable contributions ………

Hi Stegosaurus here,

I didn't watch, but I am sure it's Heckys fault. No bottle. Gotta get someone with a bit of spunk in to take the range. Big Sam.

We need 10 points from 6 games to make it academic what others do.

We’ve averaged 1.9 all season against the division.

We now have to go and average 1.67 over 6 games, with 4 at home in front of our own fans against teams with an average placing of 14.67.

Nothing else really matters. The only factors external to that are that Luton may drop points meaning that the requirement would drop to no more than 1.33 points per game at worst.

So whilst this promotion feels a little like the tire that won’t quite flush, it’s really not that far away.

Totally get your sentiment. I've really enjoyed this season, but there's no a big cloud looming whichever way this season ends.

Go up, and we really will be threatening Derby's record and can have a second shot at claiming it.

Stay down and with all the out of contract players (plus Ndiaye and loans) we won't be able to afford, we're a strong outside bet for relegation!

Best case scenario is we go up and get to keep Doyle or McAtee, Brewster returns as the second coming of Alan Shearer, Ndiaye signs a new contract, we manage to find 4 or 5 gems in the transfer market and our younger crop (RND, Anel, Jebbison, Coulibally) all kick on...

Dave Bassett was lambasted by Forest fans for the performances, during his Forest promotion season.

Great Post Joe ! The likes of me and you have seen it all down to the 4th and back, some shockingly poor teams and some great ones.
It's amazing being a fan of the Blades ! Never many dull moments.
We win one and we are going up! We lose one (playing with 10 men for the majority of the match )and we are shit!
Emotions and passion whichever comes 1st.
It's one defeat! We are in a great position ! We have to see it through !
Come on you Blades!!!!.

I don’t know how old you are, so I’ll give you the benefit of doubt in case you’re under 10. But you seem to have an amazingly short memory and come across at very entitled. Fans have whinged throughout EVERY promotion season we’ve ever had.

Just search this forum for the aftermath of the 3-3 draw at Villa Park.

Ask some older fans about the 5-0 defeat at Upton Park in 1990. Or the 4-0 defeat at Elland Road the same season. Or whether they thought John Gannon should be starting. Watch the United documentary and see the fans moaning in the pub. It never changes.

My take on last night, which I kept reiterating in the Shoutbox at the time was...

Last night as a standalone game was a non-event. It doesn't reflect the abilities or credentials of either side, simply because it was dead rubber and a training ground exercise from 17 minutes in.

Prior to that we looked composed, competitive, up for giving them a game. I fancied us to get at least a point, and even if we lost, to have put up a proper fight. I was quietly confident.

That all changed with the sending off. Tactics weren't wrong, selection wasn't proven right nor wrong, tempo was good, application appeared so too.

So, we try to shrug it off. Ignore the media narrative, the Sky commentary, any talk of revenge from their lot, it's utter nonsense and hollow words. Meaningless. There's nothing too much to draw from that game either way. That's why I switched off at full time.

Our job now is to continue to back the lads. Hecky's job now is to coach and psychologically man manage the situation, it's just another type of challenge - to help them realise that they weren't far off or off at all, prior to the setback.

The players aren't daft either, they'll know this.

Explain to us why you support United ? It seems to be having a detrimental effect on your wellbeing !!

Or the Bristol City game.

Or THAT game against Millwall.

I guess the concern on here is everytime we have a chance to strike a telling blow this season, we have self destructed.

We play before Luton on Saturday. Get the 3 points. Get 8 ahead. Force them to win at Rotherham.

Then do the same on Tuesday. They will run out of games.

Maintain the gap after the next 2 and Luton need to win 2/3 to catch us - assuming we get nothing more.

That’s not true though. We’ve won 23 games this season. They were all chances to strike a telling blow, and we did.

Need to go up. Fail and we fall into Wendy type obscurity. Go up and season after next following our inevitable relegation we’re in a better position to go again. It’s about the short and long term future of the club

But some can be more telling.

Boro at home, Luton at home - both opportunities to nip a run at top two in the bud, and in both occasions we actually do the opposite - even a point in both of those leaves us much better off.

Then last night - 8 points clear, a free hit - and we conspire to not only lose (which isn't that much of an issue) but also hamstring ourselves for the next two.

We never make it easy - but I wouldn't have it any other way...

You said that “every time” we have a chance, we self destruct. That isn’t true. Reading away. Sunderland away. Norwich away. Wigan at home. That’s just 4 out of the last 6.

We made it easy in 2016/17!
