Good old Joey Barton.... He must know about contact with how he tret his wife. I don't how this guy gets any air time, he is thug of a person, thug of a player. I will happily be in the corner of the "Snokeflakes and "F******g wokerati's" if it means that I can avoid him. How he hasn't been locked up yet is anyone guess, he received a 12-week suspended prison sentence in March 2025 for the assault on his wife then six months in suspended for 18 months in December of 2025 for the abusive online messages and yet again another pundit that was so close but so far... started talking about reckless tackles etc but then said it's a contact game..... (show me in the Laws please other than shoulder to shoulder)

Knee injury. Sounds like he isn't back soon....
Not the end of the world for me, we need to tie down Jairo to an extended deal and look at how next season is going to pan out. We have Rothwell in there too, I wouldn't necessarily rush Arblaster but he can certainly pick up some minutes as long as it doesn't do him any harm.

Don't we have an option to extend Jairo for another year? Not sure how that works and whether he can vito it, but I would be happy with that for the time being. Hopefully he likes it here enough to want to spend more time with us anyway.

We do yeah, I would hope he signs it but I guess that was in place because of his previous fitness issues however I think he has done more than enough to justify getting another year at least

Seriously? In training? Well the 40k a week we r paying him or whatever the number is has been a complete waste of resources ffs
Is that how much we are paying him or not?
I thought it was quite a bit less. Main point of it was for Phillips to get back playing and City to put him in the shop window.

I did think though at the time that whatever we were paying him he's a gamble. So long out and not in form.
Sure if we had picked up the Phillips of 2021 or 22 or whatever and dropped him into our side he would be fantastic. But he needs to play his way back to that.

Hopefully with Jairo back that helps us. And Phillips is available in not too long if indeed he has picked up an injury.

What are we doing to our players knees?

Bit ott to what he's saying. He' s right.

Bit ott to what he's saying. He' s right.
The bit he got right was about the yellow cards being a reckless challenges (correct by the laws of the game) not this incident as it was a red but that's by the by will let him have that one. He then mentioned that in this day in age players must control their body and not be reckless and endanger an opponent etc and gave rational that made sense about you don't want players being maimed but which is bizarre as he then contradicted himself by saying you don't want players getting sent off because it's a good solid tackle and saying like it or not it's a contact game.... no it's not, there is nothing in the Laws of the game that allows contact

Directly from Law 12 (Fouls and misconduct)
direct free kick is awarded if a player commits any of the following offences against an opponent in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force:
  • charges
  • jumps at
  • kicks or attempts to kick
  • pushes
  • strikes or attempts to strike (including head-butt)
  • tackles or challenges
  • trips or attempts to trip
If an offence involves contact it is penalised by a direct free kick. Using excessive force is when a player exceeds the necessary use of force and endangers the safety of an opponent and must be sent off.

I would love to know where it says you can make contact with a player, plus it is down to the referee's judgement as well as it is what is considered by the referee to be use of excessive force.

Where is this information from?
Just me inset of some people.
He has injured it and is being assessed.

He is now back at United though, we understand, with boss Chris Wilder hoping he will be back in a red and white shirt before the end of the campaign. “Yes, he tweaked his knee in the Sheffield Wednesday game,” Wilder confirmed.
“It was a great day for a lot of us but unfortunate for him in terms of the sending off and just a minor issue. He’s had that checked out and he’s suspended as well, his final game tomorrow. As soon as we get any news on that in the medium term, we'll let you know.”

A top player but was never needed.

Peck
Arblaster
Soumare
Rothwell
Jairo
Davies?
I'm fully expecting it to be season ending. Otherwise, why mention it? It's just Wilder sewing the seed, to manage expectations.

It's a shame. He needed to get up to speed. I've been mostly impressed with him so far. I'd say of the list here, he and Jairo are the true holding midfielders. Soumare maybe, but like him as I do, he isn't positionally disciplined enough yet. The rest are competing for the other more traditional CM slot IMO.
