Those expecting a walk over last night shouldn't be too downhearted. The Bramall Lane derby is usually the tighter affair. The only time they have come and attacked us were the games under Blackwell (1 defeat and 1 draw, plus a win).

They usually set up not to lose, whereas when we go to Hillsborough we go and try and win the game, meaning it's usually more open.

Last night was a bit extreme from them, but you can't blame them considering what they've just gone through and appointing a new manager.

As others have said, get used to it at Bramall Lane regarding other teams... They know we'll rip them apart if they try to come here and play.

We need some more players who are good in tight situations in order to unlock opponents.

Extremely good point, this is definitely the attitudes of both clubs, I think whilst we were tipped as favourites last night (even 5Live said that Wednesday managed to earn a point), we still maintain that Underdog mentality. I wouldn't want it any other way.

However, its an attitude which perhaps allows us to also accept that plucky performance and talk about being unlucky rather than a missed opportunity. Wilder is changing this attitude to not accept just a point, or 4 points from 6, but that we must drive on to make it 6 out of 6.

For me it's a mixture of frustration, disappointment and relief. Given the recent upheaval at S6 (new unpopular CEO from Charlton, new low profile manager and first game in charge) they wanted to avoid defeat at all cost and had set up accordingly.
Hopefully the new signings will give us that little bit extra to unlock defensively-minded teams. Time will tell.

Trust in Wilder. He knows what we need and how need to change in order to beat teams. Just a shame we don't have he spending power of others as these players would be much easier to find when shopping at M&S rather than Aldi

I think you're right about most of that KB. However, I also think it's not just about the players, but the way they are being asked to play. I was disappointed, if I'm honest, with parts of Wilder's post-match summary because he was saying "we have to be more patient" and referred to keeping hold of the ball more in their final third and "over-loading them", waiting for the right moment to strike, and if it isn't on, then don't try it.

I think this is fundamentally part of the problem and I've said this on here many times in recent months. We play some great stuff getting up to the 18 yard box and then...oh dear! It's like none of them know what to do next. It goes left, it goes right, it goes in, it comes out. What the hell are they doing? Football Hokey-Cokey around the 18 yard box! And Wilder is actually endorsing this "cat and mouse" approach, telling them to just keep the ball and try moving it to the other side until a gap finally appears. Sorry, but I think this is totally wrong. I agree with just about everything else that Chris says and does for this club and I think the guy is brilliant. But can he not see that all this pissing about, over-playing it around the 18 yard box, is part of the problem? We need to be more direct when attacking. We need to do it bloody quick an' all. Run at them, run straight through the heart of the defence, panic them, get shots off early and get crosses in early.

He was right about us not having the quality with the final ball - that's also a big issue. But we could help ourselves an awful lot more by stop trying to create the perfect goal and thread the ball through an opposition defence packed with 10 men - I've used this analogy before too - "it's like watching a blind man trying to thread a needle". We need to attack teams more quickly, more directly. Get at them whilst they haven't had time to withdraw all 10 men back in defence. The problem is our build up is so slow that by the time we get to the 18 yard box they are all camped out there waiting for us.

We are just making things unnecessarily difficult for ourselves with this, slow build-up, style of football. Only 2 attempts on goal all game tells you everything.

I was thinking the same in the last 20 mins when I saw cross after cross and long shits flying high and wide.

Hopefully the added quality will help

Spot on Kuwaiti blade not that we have been rumbled just need more quality in the final third.Wilder knows this and is attempting to bring in more quality within the confines of his budget ,still allot play for ,Wilder won't hesitate to change personal to improve us.Billy is finding this out for although we are finding goals hard to come by be has a task on his hands to get a start. That shows how far we have come.

Have you tried Aldi fillet steak? it is fantastic!
In fact I’ve had several and all were better than the over priced ones you get from ‘m&s’.

Credit their new manager, he clearly got them working on defensive discipline and they were pretty solid without offering much going forward. In fact, the only times they ventured forward was due to our losing possession, which sadly happened too frequently.

As Wilder said, 'from tee to green' we were fine in the main, but Baldock apart the quality of final balls were so poor. Stevens gets into great positions, but his crosses are awful hit and hope affairs, no thought or craft. He also lost the ball a few times and from one occasion they had that spell at the end when we could have lost.

Whether it is a confidence thing I don't know, but they have to get back to making that final pass, or taking a shot, much earlier. We are too deliberate presently and teams know how we operate and setup for it. Having the new boys and Brooks will help that, plenty to play for, and I still think we have a good shout for the play offs.

Absolutely Trust in Wilder, i hope it didn't come across as a negative against him.

I don't see the spending power as an excuse, we knew what the situation was when he came in. This season has proved that we can reach the top of this division with the budget we have.

The problems we have are not down to budgets, its down to getting the players that were achieving good results earlier in the season (Duffy, Clarke, Baldock, Stevens as examples) to pick their form up again.

This game was never in a million years going to be easy. In fact the more the build up went on, the more I could see us losing. Wendy are exactly the same as Bolton. They were always going to park the bus and live in hope. They are at the same level as Bolton for a reason. Overpaid poor quality players who simply play for the cash. Before kick off I said I’d settle for a point and to be honest I’m happy we’ve taken four off them this season. No one can ever take away the brilliance of the bouncing day massacre.

The underdog thing is a good point. I actually think they’ve done better against us when they’ve been genuine underdogs. Like last night. For all the cash they’ve spent, the chaos they’re in put them as clear underdogs last night & in the end it took a bit of pressure off them and back onto us.

Disagree, I had one recently, rubbish. Now the one I got from the butcher's, yum!

You make a good point.

I have just been looking at the stats for the Hillsborough game.

Both sides had exactly the same number of shots last time as this. 12 each. However, last time we had 7 on target, this time only 2. We also had only 37% possession last time compared with 64% this time, but still managed to get a similar number of corners (7 last time, 8 this time) from that smaller amount of possession.

Those stats suggest to me that we were far more direct at Hillsborough, in as much as we worked the ball forwards quicker and were prepared to shoot far earlier.
