Just signed four new players, but know nowt about any of them. Guess this is sign of the times at the Lane.

Anybody know if they are any good?

UTB

no never heard of them but i am glad he is putting the team together now instead of late july, august as they can join the full squad tomorrow.

Going on other messageboards and supporters of previous clubs:

Brandy - very good. Best of four and will offer us a different dimension we've not had for a couple of seasons. Pacy and with a few tricks. Not prolific though, but opinion is split as to his best role.

McGinn - again, very good. Was destined for a first team role at Watford before a bad injury. Still got a good number of games for them in the league above. Went on loan to Shrewsbury and their supporters took to him. Tidy midfielder who likes to keep it on the floor. I've asked on 365 for some views, here's the first:
Was excellent for us until his injury. New takeover meant he never stood a chance

Great signing for you
McGinty - hmmm, doesn't seem to be much loved anywhere. Very dodgy attitude and has been in trouble with the rozzers on occasion. Mind you, he did go from Charlton as a 16 year old for a million, so may have something in his locker. Tranmere supporters think he's okay defensively, but doesn't offer much going forward. Left back. From a Man Yoo supporter friend:
Left back. He's alright, but fell behind Reece James in the reserves pecking order towards the end of last season. Do a decent enough job at your level

Jasper Johns - little said about him really. Pacy left back but can also play on the left wing. That's where the info ends. Troubling that he only played one game as a sub for Everton's under 21s last season...

On balance, some reason for optimism. The top two seem like very good little signings, but certainly the signings of a club likely to be challenging for playoffs rather than the title.

The only one I know about is Brandy, fast, tiny, weak, agile... Johns I presume is fairly quick and McGinty spent time on loan with Tranmere last season and if I remember correctly he scored the goal FOR us at their place, already a good goal scorer for the club, 1 in 0 :)

Johns is just for the development squad (aka the Black Hole of Doom Squad), so doubt we'll see him near the first team for... well... ever.

2 year contracts with the option for 1 year extensions are exactly right too IMO.

Indeed. The fact that it's also an option for the club to activate rather than for the player to activate is already an improvement on January's transfer deals.

well im happy with that, young players coming in should give us reason for optimism if they are good...................until the jan transfer window of course

Mcginty is 6 ft 3 in? Maybe he could play Centre-Back also if he is good defensively but not going forward. Hopefully this means that we are going to be selling Williams because we have 5 left-backs at the moment.

Happy with the type of players we've gone for. Hopefully they're all players on the way up as players and hopefully they're all determined to realise their potential with us.

Brandy adds qualities that we currently lack, and I expect him to be an option out wide primarily. McGinn is supposed to be a creative ball player who's been unlucky with injuries at Watford. We'll have to see what role we'll give him. Can he play alongside McDonald? Will he replace him? Or could he play in a creative wide role, similar to Quinn and Williamson?

McGinty and Johns both cover a couple of positions, and after leaving big clubs, they should realise they've got to work even harder to make it. As things stand neither are likely to walk into the team, so let's see if they've got the motivation and determination to force their way in.

Im quite happy weve gone for relative unknowns instead of expensive over the hill players.

How can anyone say were we will be challenging without seeing these players play or Weirs style of play?

I think the next movement will outwards now though.

I remember when Harry Bassett came to us and signed the likes of Deane, Bryson, Hetherston, Agana, Booker, Roberts, Tracey, et al - all relatively unknown but not too bad if I remember !
After watching the shower of sh!te that turned out last season I am willing to wait and see - they can't be any worse!

A balaclava and a 9mm by the sounds of it.

All the signings follow Warnock's principle of signing players "with something to prove"

Perhaps Brandy offers a little more, but I'd like to see some players with experience of getting out of this division and someone with real leadership qualities. I'm talking a leader like Morgs or the experience and level headedness of Stuart McCall. Since we lost Morgs we've not had a player that the team could turn to for that experience when things don't quite go to plan

Cometh the hour, cometh the man. We can only hope Swiss, but we haven't put all our eggs in one basket

Agreed.
We now need a quality captain who wont take any shit & lead from the front.
I dont think Doyle or Collins would be able to do this role effectively.

No chance of selling him, not much chance of giving him away and I would imagine not many takers if we paid to have him move away!!

McGinn and McGinty should lead to some interesting commentaries...

"McGinn to McGinty... he plays it pack to McGinn... now McGinty again... still McGinty...." etc

Don't rub it in ! The days are flying past and when I wake up in the morning I am pleased that I've lasted another day!

Strange way of looking at it. Wouldn't it make more sense to be pleased you've lasted another day, before you go to sleep? The way you do it, you include the part of the day when you're asleep. Which isn't that interesting a part of the day really. If you die in your sleep you've still lasted another day for all in tents and caravans. So why not commence celebrations there and then?
