Does it mater?

He's currently playing in the fourth division and might get into a third division team occasionally if he returns.

yes it does matter.

Mcnulty was brought in as a development player - was asked a LOT of the time to play 1 up front, when for most of the season it was obvious Clough wanted to play a big lad up top (Higdon/O'grady/Davis). Mcnulty was not this type of player and virtually every one on here has castigated a young player who played 4-4-2 at Livingston and was then asked to play a very difficult style for us. He was our leading scorer (without penalties) and would have scored 20+ (still the apparent holy grail of strikers) if he had a full season.

He is a natural striker and needs to play in a 2 up top, which I do not believe he ever has for us. The lad has issues, but he has been misused by Clough and not used by Adkins.

If he has already been told he can go, that's fine - but the jid has not been allowed to play his natural game - yes, very much a lazy type of Keith Edwards style - but he WILL score goals. The Portsmouth manager knows this - hence the reason he did ever so well at Chezzer and why Pompey have lure him with no doubt a decent salary. He was probably what we needed as manager to get us out - not a named manager we seem to chase, just one who would have got his head down and done what was required.
