You can't play Basham as one of two central defenders, he's just not a good enough 'footballer' with the ball at his feet. Marauding runs through gaps in midfield when a head of steam is built up is one thing, the technical abilities required in tight spaces when under pressure from forwards is quite another.

I don’t give a fuck. If Basham apparently can’t do it play Kyron fucking Gordon there. We now have 3 fit defenders. And Gordon. And one of those is our only fit wing back.

Either way, today's result was far more down to (lack of) bodies rather than anything to do with formations.

It was poor, but that’s a lot to do with playing a kid at right back who’s an inexperienced, probably not good enough centre half. Really uncomfortable.

Excluding the goals, almost every time they attacked they threatened to tear our defence to shreds.

And that's not just due to Gordon (thought Sachdev looked better tho fwiw) it's due to the Egan/Bash factor (even before Egan got hobbled).

Only time I would consider playing a back 4 is with Anel in the lineup which ironically would probably mean could go back to playing a back 5 anyway.

Just about all premier league teams play a back 4 and the majority of championship teams are moving to it.
Perhaps Slav was right after all
