I've come to accept that Wilder will oversee the squad changes during the summer and will be manager fir the next campaign.

Its not something anyone except COH can change and they show little sign of doing so.

The budget will have been known for months and we know what we have to work with , plans for those who are going, staying and a wishlist for those coming in will be mostly complete.

As for the split in the wilder in / out camp , all of us will just have to hope for the best , get behind the club , the team and the players and enjoy summer .

I watched Newcastle get outplayed by Bournemouth today. A much easier win for the visitors than the scoreline suggests. It is clear that Eddie Howe's tactics have been worked out and a good team has gone stale. I doubt that it is anyone's great failing or fault, just the passage of time.

A change seemed to me, as a neutral. to be best solution for everyone at the club. Made me wonder if neutrals watching us would think the same.

25/26 v top 10 teams - P19, W2, D2, L15 with Derby away left. 8 points. So 49 points from the other 24 matches.

Next season, United need to find a way to be more consistently competitive against the good teams. I don't think Wilder is a poor manager. His players seem to mostly like him, he sets his teams up well to start games. But I think it is very fair to say that when United don't have a talent advantage, he isn't making up a couple of extra % of performance level with tactical versatility.

So what is it likely to look like when chances are, the squad will be smaller and contains lesser players

Yes we were there for 6 years. But your statement implies that Wilder was the literal only possible manager who could have won promotion from L1, which is simply not the case.

Let's not forget that without Ched Evans being a colossally stupid twat one night, Danny Wilson would have almost certainly got us out of L1 at the first time of asking. We were unbeaten in 9 games ahead of the MK Dons match, and Evans had scored 12 goals in that time. Then we lost him due to non-footballing matters that Wilson had no control over, and we picked up 2 points from our last 3 games, and missed out on promotion by 3 points. There's certainly an argument to make that Wilson could have set the team up to be less reliant on Ched than it was, but it's hard to be anything but sympathetic (in my opinion) to Wilson's predicament of having the key component of his tactical setup be taken away from him at the absolute worst moment in the season.

Ignoring Wendy we’ve lost the most games in the league. If we’d managed to see out games and converted some of those into draws we’d be in with a sensible shout of promotion.

The real criticism of wilder is the 30 points dropped from winning positions. Even half that number and we’re safe in the playoffs.

Thats where the focus needs to be next season - the core squad is good enough to get into the lead but we need a proper understanding of why we let them slip, fitness, tactics, confidence, a mixture of all 3 and something else?

This is more important to me than clearing out the squad and bringing in good lads that get the club.

Don't believe everything you read on Wikipedia. There is also absolutely no point looking at anything other than league results because Wilder's team selections for the cups show his distain for them.

Wilder v3 has the second highest win ratio at 44.7%. Wilder v1 was higher at 46.1% despite the car crash of post-lockdown results which dropped it from 52.4%; Wilder v2 was lower at 42.9%.

This version of Wilder is losing more games though (39.5% vs 38.5% for v2 and 32.4% for v1).

Hope is never enough to deal with the major anachronism of the transfer window closing a month after the season has started - it's a bizarre system which means all clubs start the season not knowing who's in their squad , let alone having them fully fit & coached into whatever is the manager's playing strategy for the season.

So you deal with the system objectively, like Sunderland.

They targeted their players in the Spring and once the final whistle blew at Wembley their loans were secured against incoming TV money. Within weeks their targets were signed and integrated into a proper pre-season so they could hit the ground running and they did. As it stands they may finish just a few points above 3rd bottom, so that early season form in August and September when other clubs were still acclimatising was crucial.

We've known for months which league we would be in next season. Have we a plan to execute? I doubt it.

We also signed players with questionable recent injury records who have spent most of their time here injured and that should sound alarm bells throughout the scouting setup.

Our transfer business this season has been a colossal waste of money and has burnt through an awful lot of the fans' goodwill.

As it stands, Alfie Gilchrist is the only loan player in the last 3 seasons to play over 2,000 (just over 22 full 90s) minutes with 2,104. Bindon is on 1,974

The loans business has either been unlucky (Souttar), left till January (BBD v1, Choudhury), underused (JRS only played 1,725 minutes) or somewhere between useless and meh - Larouci, McAtee v2, Thomas, Gilchrist, Holding, Clarke, BBD v2, Bindon, Barry, Ogbene, Soumare, Phillips.

That's millions spent on squad filler. Awful, awful return. But even more concerning is how many of the players were only ever going to be squad player/fringe starters, even if they'd played well.
