Full agreement.
The clusterfuck of the summer recruitment hasn't helped either. Having a decent 11 with shite options on bench was always going to be an hard task.
Think we've signed 20 players this season and about 5 have done ok.
I make it 20 players signed for the first team squad too; and I'd say that two have been good (Bamford, Riedewald), three have been broadly OK (Bindon, Tanganga, Mee) and the rest - the other
15 - have either not played (because they're shit) or have been shit when they've played. We also signed players with questionable recent injury records who have spent most of their time here injured and that should sound alarm bells throughout the scouting setup.
Our transfer business this season has been a colossal waste of money and has burnt through an awful lot of the fans' goodwill.
Signings this season:
Ehiji Ukaki: on loan to Greek SL side Atromitos where he's mainly a sub. Grade F
Christian Nwachukwu: on loan to Turkish second tier side Serik Spor. Grade F
Mihail Polendakov: fourth choice right back for the U21s. Grade F
Danny Ings: brain works, legs don't. Grade D
Ben Mee: see Ings but slightly better on both counts. Has seemingly fallen out with Wilder. Grade C
Japhet Tanganga: bog standard Championship defender who we paid top tier money for. Grade C+
Mark McGuinness: sub-standard Championship defender who we paid decent money for. Grade D+
Tahith Chong: sub-standard Championship midfielder who we paid decent money for. Grade D-
Nils Zätterström: bang average young prospect who we paid decent money for. On loan at Genoa. Will likely never play for us. Grade F
Alex Matos: panic buy from Chelsea. Woefully inadequate technically. Will be sold/released/loaned out this summer. Grade E
Joe Rothwell: sent off 10 minutes into his debut. Chronically unfit. Jury is out. Grade D+
Jaïro Riedewald: without a doubt the single most influential player in terms of impact on the team. A superb signing, if only he played more than 65 mins. Grade A-
Patrick Bamford: Coventry's loss is our gain. Our top league scorer despite playing less than half the minutes. Another superb signing. Grade A
Loans
Ben Godfrey: stank the place out, sent back to Atalanta. Grade F
Louie Barry: sent back to Villa. Currently injured. Grade E-
Djibril Soumaré: not trusted by Wilder, hasn't impressed or been given chance to impress. Might have a decent career elsewhere. Grade D+
Chiedozie Ogbene: came in after not really featuring following an Achilles injury, hasn't really featured due to other recurring injuries*. Grade D
Tyler Bindon: a rocky start has turned into a steady finish. Dropped recently as Wilder looks to next season. Grade B
Ki-Jana Hoever: some atrocious performances off the bench; one decent cameo against Wednesday. Grade D-
Kalvin Phillips: booked in his first two appearances, sent off for a wild lunge in his third and final. Now injured. Grade E
