It was a soft one, but the on field decision was penalty, there was contact, so it wasn't "clear and obvious" enough to overturn.

If the ref hadn't have given it, VAR wouldn't have.. so I'm not sure VAR is to blame here.

Could've gone either way, nice to be on the right side of one of those for a change.

Spot on. 50 replays and some angles looked nailed on. No clear and obvious error. It’s a trip and a pen

One thing that annoyed me about that whole thing was, if it Wasn't given, Baldock had the ball in a great position and we would have doubly missed out.

Surprised he has the time to post anything else given that Saint Gary has jumped on the Palestine bandwagon.
Or because he’s suffered “racist abuse” because he has “darker skin”. He’s just a real life Ali G.

Screw all this "it's soft" and "he was already going down" stuff. Baldock gets his foot between defender and the ball and the defender makes a rash challenge for it. If a player's shielding it by the corner flag you're expecting a free kick and saying it's daft of the defender. Happens in the box and suddenly there's all this umming and aahing about whether it was enough contact or whether he's gone down too easily. It's a shit attempt at a tackle, stop whining.

Seen far worse given. And when this stuff goes against us I'm always looking at our part in it first. Blame the defender for going for a ball he had 0 chance of winning instead of bemoaning that a ref might have been wrong if you play it enough times from enough angles.

Soft pen for sure. But the player doesn't get the ball and gets Baldock.
You can argue he's going down already but he might not have?
It's a soft pen which could or could not be given.

However few mins before not sure how that pen wasn't given. Completely accidental but should it not strike his hand it's heading towards goal...

To paraphrase their manager when interviewed, minimal contact, if any, and our player went down too easily......bad decision.
Imagine my surprise when the interviewer forgot to ask him what he thought about his players doing just that during the game.
Exactly in the context of the game and the inumerable free kicks they were given for minimal ( if any ) contact then its a pen
I dont understand why people are saying it isnt

PH on penalty;

"I've just been told that because there was contact there is no way VAR can overturn it"

Should be the end of the debate but it won't be.

PH on events leading up to their goal;

It was the part Rob [referee] played in it by not allowing treatment on for Gus. He'd done it all game. Gus is injured ball goes out of play and he says if he wants it he has to go off. Gus then goes down again and still won't allow treatment on.

Disgraceful

Perhaps Lineker and co. can comment on this. Unlikely as its all about poor Gary O'Neill. Shame there wasn't the same sentiment in our first season back when we topped the charts for VAR decisions going against us.
