So I've been thinking how disappointing the JTW usually is for us. Then I thought if we get in to some OK form we'll probably be mid table mediocrity in January and therefore JTW will likely be crap as usual.

If we want a strong JTW to help tee up next season, would the board likely spend better if we're still in the relegation battle?

Not saying I want this, just interesting to think bad form might see a stronger transfer window than OK form.

The type of player that we need to go for promotion next season is unlikely to be available in the JTW.
I think that we just need a couple of loans to improve the squad (and preferably the optimum eleven) in January to ensure we are safe.
However if the current squad can defy our misgivings and race us up the league during the next 6 weeks or so, then maybe see what else could be around to give us more momentum. If then we get promoted heaven knows what we do in the summer !!!

We all know what will happen in Jan.

In December pressers Wilder will say we are "monitoring" players and we have "1 or 2" lined up, mid Jan we will still not have signed anyone, Wilder will get terse when questioned saying its not "that easy" and we will be "working hard" behind the scenes.

Fag end of Jan we will sign 2 underwhelming players, at least one of these will have a questionable injury record, Wilder will state "we have been monitoring" them for a while

Etc etc

I mean thinking we were ever in "the relegation battle" in fucking October is ridiculous in the first place, but the absolute best case scenario for spending well is the table indicating that we should never make the sorts of absurd short termist signings that managers tend to beg for if there is a remote chance of changing division. So no, they wouldn't. Unless they are very good at telling Wilder to shut the fuck up and do his own job for a change

Might get the Hamer money, can't see anything else given we are already in hock to Macquarie for the parachute monies.

if we can terminate the loans and replace with better ones that will be a good window - not sure if we i) can or ii) will

Regarding the loan signings.. do we need to be asking questions of Jamie Hoyland? Or did Selles and the AI algorithm make Hoyland a fairly redundant figure in the whole summer debacle?

I mean this is perfectly fine in theory, if we can't end a loan that's not working then we can't do much about that, but in the context of the most probable scenario come the JTW being that, after this absurdly slow start we have got into a position of mid table obscurity resulting in Championship football in 26/27 99% of the time, why would we use resources on new loans (outside of those with realistic options to buy) rather than using several months of dead rubbers to see why we already have in house? If we send Godfrey back it should be with the idea of giving Seriki an extended run. Barry to see what One (or Marsh) can actually do. If the second half of the season is going to be going through the motions then at least learn something

Depends on the player I suppose.

In regards to Barry and Bindon, Bettis did say that they were Selles signings that he pushed for, in that case you can ask questions of why Selles wanted them specifically.

For example, you could ask Selles why he pushed for Bindon (other than the fact that he had him at Reading) for x amount of wages and x amount of loan fee, when you could have had Mepham for slightly higher wages and a similar loan fee.

You could also ask questions of why Selles was against a potential Mcburnie signing.

In regards to Godfrey (his rumoured personal issues aside), yes you could probably ask questions of Hoyland and our head of recruitment (Mike Allen?) about why they signed him.

I think Hoyland was the big Tom Cannon fan because he was at Everton as he was a youth there. I might be wrong tho.

I also think that if we are paying anything like what we are rumoured to be for Godfrey’s wages, why that makes sense. Same when we got Holgate. Seems like a waste to me unless we get deals where a player is clearly and obviously a game changer. Be better spending it on an asset.

Dont get your hopes up as high as that about the January window! Bettis already said last week on RS that they will be waiting till the end of the window!

The best case will be sitting in mid table so we can experiment a little. The issue is, even if that happens, The Championship is so close that some fans will be dreaming of play-offs whilst others will be concerned of getting sucked into a relegation fight. It's very rare you have absolutely nothing to play for in this league until the final few weeks so there will be pressure to bring players in no matter where we are

“We’ve looked at the data and scouted the boy in person.. I think he’ll be a great asset to the club” which will then turn into “He’s not hit the ground running, but he’s shown glimses of what he’s about, he’s a young lad learning to play to our way etc etc etc” that’s my wilder bingo!
