Jesus H. Tapdancing Christ on a stick! Why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why why?

Why have we signed him? He's got a lot to prove, mainly that contrary to popular opinion he is able to hit a cow's arse with a banjo.

I'd just say that most "Blades fans" wrote off Hulse, Shipps, Bromby, Quinn, Morgan, Geary and Keef before they kicked a ball.

I'd prefer to let them show us what they can do and then decide.

Whoever signs will get my full support.

cant remember anyone writing off Bromby and Quinn,

But come on Jon Stead had one decent half a year with blackburn and has done F.A since

We need a proven goalscorer!!

He only has "something to prove" because he has been absolutely shocking. Just look at Sunderland. Come on Neil, think about it eh.

Billy Sharpe or Jon Stead, i no who i'd choose . . .

Loads slagged Hulse who has been perhaps our best player so far?????

I can remeber loads of united fans complaining about signing them on a free from Wednesday.

Stead did score goals for Blackburn in the Premiership. was it 8 in 13 games on a run.....now if he did that for us??

Sharp hasn't. He also chose to leave United.

We ahven't signed him yet and would he be the last signing??

Warnock has said we have had 2 major bids turned down.......would you want no more back up???

I'm just saying don't judge players before they kick a ball for us.

Is that wrong??

Must admit, when I heard the news I wasn't best pleased but like I said on the shoutbox earlier, I can only see this as back-up for Hulse. At the moment we have no back-up and Stead's hold-up play is good and he's a hard-worker.
If he's a replacement for Akinbiyi then that looks to be a decent signing.
The fee is being rumoured at around £1.5m though which does seem excessive, but £2m+ seemed excessive for Hulse and we're all happy with the value we've got from him.

He hasn't signed yet but if he does I'm sure he'll do a good job when called upon

mirror reporting ,stead ready to go after blades agree 1million offer

If this is true then good deal in my eyes, stead was great for blackburn plus sunderland paid 1.8 million 18 months ago.

reports are saying he will sign in time to play on saturday .

Kabba

------------------------------------->

Stead

JESUS CHRIST WARNOCK!

League Goals Per Game:

Steven Kabba - 0.24
Jonathon Stead - 0.21

Kabba has played roughly half the amount of games as Stead so you could argue he's had half the opportunity to score OR he's likely to have a higher GPG due to less matches.

I wish people would get over thinking Kabba is a superstar, he had great potential and on form he is a great player. But he clearly has problems at the moment, either his mind is elsewhere or he's lost his way.

Forgetting the fact that he's not even close to having been officially confirmed, Derby fans seem sad to lose his services and anyone i've talked to since the rumour mentions watching him being the best player on the pitch multiple times (couple of Huddersfield fans and a Liverpool fan).

People are always so eager to critisise and before the signing is even confirmed they have usually been completely vilified, in many cases people making such statements havent even seen the player play.

McCall
Hulse
Bromby
Quinn
Shipperley

The list goes on!

If the lad signs, give him a chance! Back when he was banging them in for Huddersfield he was one of those wonderkids we are always urged to sign and slagged off when we don't, it's amazing what a couple of years gets you.

PS - there have been numorous report of him being seen in Preston yesterday.

£1m isn't too bad.

I think it'll freshen things up up front and (not wanting to sound too much like Warnock) offer us something different.

Entirely different players, doing entirely different things.
Like asking to choose between Morgan and Tonge.
If you want someone who looks to have some potential as a goalscorer you may opt for Sharpe (of course Stead was talked about in exactly the same way 3 years ago, so it aint a given he will cut it in the PL)
If however you are looking for some cover and back-up for Hulse, Sharpe would be a nonsense and Stead, even though he appears to have lost his goal touch, has retained the ability to hold it up and bring others into the play. From that point of view he maybe a reasonable signing. Given his record over the last two years £1m seems a bit excessive but if you want you have to pay.

Confirmed - 750k
Not a bad price at all

Rises by 500k if we stay up - money well spent if he gets the winner against Wigan to ensure survival ;)

I never had a problem with the above players as such, although was unsure about price for Hulse, and was also not sure bromby could make it. Gladly was proven wrong with both players.

With Stead, I don't think it is the worst signing in the world, but I am disappointed we have gone for yet another championship player. Yes I know the players who have performed well for us so far this season have been these said championship players.

But if we are ever expected to go that step further, perhaps we should be looking to poach other prem players. And maybe risk a bit more money.

I'd go in to it more if i could be bothered at this moment, but i really cant.

Nobody thinks Kabba is a superstar, just most people realise he is a far far far better player than Jon Stead.

As for stead i found this post by me from the start the season.

Ins:
Bennett or gerrard/That Young lad at barnsley - Flinders
Davenport
Mcsheffry/Koumas
Shittu
Idiakez/Koumas
Jerome
Billy jones
Ashley young
Greg halford - Colchester, can play everywhere.
Stead - Yes i know, get his confidence back and he will be good.

Keep:
Kenny
Kozluk
Armstrong
Francis
Tonge
Jagielka
Ifill
Monty
Ade
Kabba
Webber
Shipps
Ross
Forte
S.Quinn
A.Quinn
Bromby

K.Hurst

Get rid:
Barnes
Morgan
Flipflop
Short - retired but keep as coach
Dyer
Geary
Unsworth
A. Wright
Keith
Deano
Beckett
Horse
Haidong - keep as coach in china

I stick by that actually, if he gets his confidence back he will come good again.

Everybody just needs to get behind him.

BUT, i can guarentee some twats at the back of the kop will boo him.

Fair enough pal, but you also said be rid of Geary Keith and Morgan who have been our best players so far this season! Ignore me Sharpy, I'm just being an arse.

Regarding Kabba comments made by Foxy: In his appearences despite not getting the goals, he causes oppositions' defenses problems (more than Webber has done this season). For me, Kabba is a superstar. He will come back to haunt us. Fact. :)

not all of them are twats at back off kop!! but i do agree if we get beind him and he gets some confidence he could become a a gd player

I sit at the back of the kop.

I said Some will boo him like they boo'd Tonge, Monty, Deano and a few others.

You slag off players and the manager all the time, Sharpy - maybe not at matches, but certainly on here. Does that make you a twat too?

I agree, but only in his past appearances, not at all since the Leeds match.

I think he want to move back down south personally, which is a pity, because I think he has (when he wants) what it takes to be a top top striker.

As for the direct comparison, Stead is the type of player who works for goals/brings people into play too.

You don't think he's been in the least bit effective since Leeds? I think he's a threat whenever he's on the pitch. Yes his finishing has been woeful for months but that's not what I'm saying - defenders can't deal with him even when he's out of form. It's a shame his finishing is so bad at the moment but we all know he can finish - all he needs is time to get his eye in. I'm just so frustrated with Warnock that some players get all the time in the world to get it right and others don't.

And yes, the direct comparison isn't the strongest. :)

True he may come back and haunt us but theres 1 thing webber has done and kabba hasnt and thats score. Plus webber dosnt have an attitude problem like kabba.

maybe this is the case season but definately not last, he put us in 1st place after 6 games with 6 goals in 6 games, i think wen botherd hes a great striker, i hope he stays :(

yes but who scored the winner at cardiff that got us promoted. :)

Sorry guys, I think all this is bollocks. Grabbing the odd goal (a couple of goal-line stabs and a massively out-of-character header in the case of Webber this season) doesn't counter-balance piss-poor performances - neither does the fact he got an all important goal 10 months ago. Warnock has his favourites and always has and where a lot of the time he's right, sometimes he's wrong. I'm not going to start revolting in the car park about it, it just annoys me that Kabba has done nothing wrong except miss a few chances. His work rate has been good in the time he's been given this season and I'm convinced he'd have put in better performances than "player of the month" Danny Webber (I love Webber too, by the way - just wish he'd hit some form) if Kabs had been given half the chance Webs has been given.

You never know what's been going on behind the scenes though, do you? I used to love Kabs - he was my favourite player - but all the stalling on the new contract after the club had stuck by him through injury put me right off him, and I'm sure that the manager and the board have similar misgivings - as well as a lot of other fans. It wouldn't surprise me if he's not a particularly popular character within the squad - he's seems to have the attitude that he's somehow better than he is and that he's got nothing to prove, which is sadly not the case.

Warnock said himself regarding the contract, prior to his new deal he was pretty much the lowest paid player at the club and told the media and fans to back off.

His attitude is something I've touched on in previous posts and I reckon it's down to a level of arrogance that players like Kabba MUST have in order to perform - however, that said, I don't think he's played in any way like he has nothing to prove. When he has made an appearance this season he's been up and down the pitch like a whippet helping out in defense and then getting up front in no time.

You're right, I don't know what's been going on behind the scenes, but I do know what's been going on on the pitch. :)

And why on earth would you think he's not a popular character within the squad?

I just said it wouldn't surprise me. If he gives it the Billy Big Bollocks and thinks he's bigger than the club, it wouldn't surprise me at all if there was some ill-feeling from other players. Obviously I don't know either, but it's a possibility, no?

And as for being the lowest paid - if he hadn't been injured, he probably would have got his contract renewed earlier. But how many clubs do you know who would keep the faith with him all that time? That's what annoys me about him. Everyone who pulls on the red and white stripes should be willing to die for the club, and he clearly isn't - if he had the dedication and never-say-die attitude of Jagielka, Morgan and Monty then I'd give him the benefit of the doubt, but he hasn't, and he's disappointed me massively. Just my opinion.
