According to Sky, he's hoping his recent performances will warrant a new deal:

Ertl eyes new Blades deal

and for the clickless

Sheffield United defender Johannes Ertl hopes that his recent performances will earn him a new contract in the summer.

The former Austria international has featured in all of the Blades' last three matches, but has managed just eight appearances in total since recovering from a long-term knee injury in November.

The 29-year-old's current deal is set to expire at the end of the season, with German outfit 1860 Munich linked with the versatile centre-half, but Ertl told Sky Sports that he is keen to remain at Bramall Lane for the foreseeable future.

"Of course, I would love to stay here beyond this season because everybody knows how good a club Sheffield United is, especially with how we are doing this season," he said.

"You can sense how well this club is run on a match-day with the fans more than playing their part this year and the way we are playing the game is great as well.

"That starts with the manager and his philosophy and I'd love to extend my stay here because the future looks a bright one for this club.

"We'll just have to see how things go I guess because the games are going to be coming thick and fast, so contract talks might have to wait for a while."

Which recent performances does he think will earn him a new deal??

To be fair, he doesn't say that his recent performances will earn him a new deal. He doesn't say he deserves it, he just says he'd like one because he's enjoying his time here.

Only useful for a hoofball team , anymore than one touch of the ball he is poor , better at centre back should have crossed the ball several times other night , just messed up instead . Nowhere near as alert as he was pre-injury .

And soon this will be Johnny Ertl pleads for a new contract.

And soon after that it will be Johnny Ertl begs for a new contract.

Tells its own story !

I want a Vantage V12

The lad seems a good honest pro, but, he's not effective in anything he does IMO.

We all want a new contract but missing a sitter will not get you one.

Simply hasn't been good enough.

Supposed to be a centre mid, but never looked a centre mid.

filled in at right back and centre half, but hasn't really stood out.

I don't know his position

I wouldn't give him a contract

Sounds like Ertle hurt him if he doesn't get one......

Sorry. :D

No way should this guy get a new contract.
He was ineffective last year & that hasnt changed.
We need to make sure his arse-licking doesnt end up with a new contract.

In hindsight, if we don't go up, expect Evans, Monty, Quinn, Williamson, Lowton, MacDonald etc all to leave in the summer. With the lot gone Ertl might not seem such a bad squad member. :/

Im 40 yrs old, Overweight with a bad back and dodgy knees oh and Im crap at football and I seem a better squad member than Ertl.

He was ok at centre half in the second half vs Oldham (just found time to watch it). Not that he stood out or anything, but he wasn't any worse than the others. He won most of his headers, wasn't beaten for pace, and although he sometimes looked to needlessly just play it out of touch, this can be also just described as choosing safety first. The one mistake he made was when receiving a pass back from Williamson under pressure, where he didn't have the awareness to realise he had an opposition behind him. He nipped in and stole the ball, which set up a chance for them.

Otherwise, I think he did ok and based on that should probably have been allowed to continue at centre half at Walsall, rather than creating even more disruption by bringing in the loan lads. I would have gone with Ertl and Kennedy in the middle, and Conneely at right back.

He won't be given a new contract though, and it is ignorant of the journalist to base an article on that.

By the way I think Oldham's substitute right winger Keanu Marsh-Brown looked dangerous and pacey, got quite a few crosses in and had dribbling ability. He can also play at right back, is a former England youth international, used to be at Arsenal and Fulham and only signed a contract for the rest of this season with Oldham. Worth checking him out?

A shit player in a shitter team isnt going to be an improvement. Better to get a proper centre half than a utility jobber

I'd give Ertl a contract because his name rhymes with turtle. I'd not give him a contract based on his footballing abilities though. Thirty quid a week for the name, and that's as high as I'd go.
