......well sort of. The expected response but not saying much, will still be interesting to see what SO'D says if he did his interview with RS today.

Ryan said: "I wouldn't be surprised if Sheffield United came calling. I heard Trevor Birch on the radio and when he was talking about the type of guy he wants he almost seemed to be describing Sean O'Driscoll."

Apparently theres a "very open" interview with SOD on Yorkshire Radio (on Sky/Online) tonight between 7 and 8. Yorkshire Radio being Leeds Radio of course.

as I posted elsewhere

Didn't United release a similar statement about Speed last week?

Translation:

I'm going to try and play hardball but in reality contact has already been made.

This is it Bob, with all the talk about compo flying around, at the end of the day, would Donny want to keep a manager who wants out ?

Ryan just on RS. Sounded to me as though it's entirely up to SO'D, didn't confirm that we had / hadn't approached which probably means we have as it would be easier to say 'no' if that was the case. Hopes he'll stay and thinks we have enough problems for him not to want to move.

I saw him on SSN a few minutes previous to that and he claimed on there that United hadn't approached yet but he expects they will shortly. Sounds resigned to the possibility to me. He has said the decent thing at least in that he can speak to us. Any manager in a similar situation (who has served his club like SOD has) should have that kind of respect from their chairman.

I think there was a lot more in it than that, Jim. At times he was speaking as though SOD had already joined us. It was much, much more than what 'might happen'. It would be very interesting to read a transcript.

This is from the SSN website:

Chairman John Ryan is 'very confident' manager Sean O'Driscoll will remain at Doncaster amid rumours linking him with the vacant Sheffield United post.

The Rovers boss is keeping his options open having been named as a favourite to take the post at Bramall Lane following Gary Speed's departure to coach the Wales national side earlier this week.

But Ryan is optimistic O'Driscoll, who was heavily linked with the Burnley post earlier in the year but stayed put at the Keepmoat Stadium, will stick with Rovers.

"I think Sean will stay put. That's my view," Ryan told Sky Sports News.

"I think they've got a bigger stadium and fan-base than us, but we've got a lot better team.

"I said to him after the Burnley situation that I'd always be honest with him, and if he wants to speak to other clubs, you can't stop them anyway.

"So he'll just have to get on with it. But I've made it clear to him that I think he's got a better prospect here than with Sheffield."

While Ryan has had no direct contact with the Blades as yet, the chairman is expecting an official approach in the coming days, adding: "There's definitely one coming. I'm braced for it but I'm very confident we'll keep our man."

If O'Driscoll were to take the Blades post he would mark the third manager to reign at Bramall Lane in just five months, and Ryan feels the stability offered at Rovers will be key in tempting him to stay.

He added: "We've worked together now for nearly five years, we have a history of keeping our managers and we're not changing them every five minutes.

"I'm not saying Sheffield would either, but I think he's got a good situation here."

Ryan, who brought O'Driscoll to the Keepmoat from Bournemouth in 2006, understands the interest his manager is attracting.

"He's a great manager, great coach and he plays wonderful, entertaining football," he said.

"Obviously that's been recognised and I understand that. But I still feel that I was the one that plucked him from Bournemouth four or five years ago and I still think he's got a big job to do here."

So basically:

"you can talk to "Sheffield" if you want Shaun but they have had 2 managers already this season and although they get more fans and have a bigger stadium they might sack you"

Despite only sacking one of those 2 managers the other left to manage his country and the other had 32 months and one of the highest wage bills in the division and constantly failed to move the club forward.

I was speaking as John Ryan Bob, basically he is clutching at straws

I know you were, I wasn't having a go.

Well I was but at Ryan not you. Ryan's just worried because he'll have to ask his missus if he can have more money to keep him.
