Player Suggestion John Ruddy

Would imagine his wages would be high. I reckon there's other parts of the team that the money would be better invested

If we want to aim high in the goalkeeping department and sign someone likely to replace Moore, he'd surely be quite a good option.

Surprised he's leaving Norwich.

I'd definitely take him if wages were reasonable. I'd imagine he could walk into quite a few teams who'd pay him more though and he wouldn't like the prospect of being a no 2.

They've confirmed they are releasing 7 players; Michael Turner, Sebastien Bassong, Steven Whittaker, Ryan Bennett, Youssouf Mulumbu, and Kyle Lafferty the others.

Ruddy, for me, the only one who could offer something.

Really? That's quite surprising.

Bennett would definitely offer something, and I expect us to be considering him now. He's the stand out for me out of those.

Mulumbu's always been a good player and we need that sort of option in midfield. Seems to have had injury problems though.

Bassong would be good but he's probably beyond us.

They're all decent enough players really, but it's obvious Norwich are having a clear out of the older players on decent wages and are looking to rebuild.

Bennett would be great, Whittaker would be too. I think he could possibly displace Freeman at RWB. He's getting on though.

I might be putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5 but I remember reading somewhere that Norwich had a lot of trouble in 'motivating' a lot of their older players.

If that released list is anything to go by then I'm guessing that these are the players that Norwich seem to be having trouble 'motivating' and so I would approach anyone from that list with great caution.

Edit: There's a mention of player motivation in this article and how a change in direction to recruitment is needed. Sounds a lot like us last season if you ask me...

There's also mention in their forum about this as well as discussions on the attitude of released players too.

Personally, I'd only consider Bennett from that list. Ruddy has been awful for the last couple of seasons and better, cheaper options (Etheridge & Smith being 2 examples) are available.

On paper I think we should be looking at better players than Kyle Lafferty, but I get the impression he's a player Wilder could definitely get something out of like with Coutts and Freeman.

It's well documented that Lafferty likes a pint or two as well. Would fit right in at the minute!

These lot are only getting released due to wages IMO, they will be on PL wages at a Championship club who missed the PO by a fair bargain

Ruddy or Adam Smith would be great to push Moore but don't think either would come knowing they would have to fight to be no1 as Moore would surely retain that position after a fantastic season, still think Long will go to another club, cant remember Wilder saying he had pushed Moore, and Long is so different to Moore with not as much communication and giving the Defence confidence.

I hope we've learned our lesson in taking declining players from higher placed teams.

Heard a couple of people mention his name, just wondered if anyone knew or had heard anything??

Ruddy hell! I hope not. Big wages and Moore will go into next season as our No.1.

I like Simon Moore ! Surely he deserves a decent run as first choice this year ?

He was released for one reason only. His wages were too high for Norwich

Seen as though he isn't currently making a wage I think a contract could easily be doable. As it stands, he doesn't have any bargaining tools.

So his wages now are a very fat zero. Shirley we could afford that?

This is very true but I'd be very surprised if Norwich hadn't offered him reduced terms to which he declined I mean he's hardly gonna uproot his family just to spite Norwich. Don't Sunderland need a keeper or are they gonna stick with that Bombscare Mannone?

Depends on how many contracts are on the table? Each one is leveredge over the other

I accept that but I was merely making the point to those that think we couldn't ascertain such a signing. We could, if we wanted, get this GK and his wages wouldn't be such a stumbling block as people think when he's out of contract.
