Been watching Donny v Bradford? He played well but I doubt he is better than what we have

Hahaha having watched the second half of last night's game, I wondered how long it would take for Marquis to be suggested.

I thought he took his goals well but looked miles away from being Champ level If Utd are forced again to recruit from the lower leagues over summer, I personally think there are better options (e.g. Marriott, Graham, Powell or a more risky bet on Collins or Eisa) depending on the type of striker they're after and of course the budget as Graham and particularly Marriott and Powell wouldn't be cheap.

I think that’s the great unknown, what financial pool we are fishing in. Marriott and others are well beyond out current reach and Marquis possibly less so.
In truth I didn’t watch last night but saw he’d scored. He was a player I’d thought about before but he didn’t seem to cross anyone’s radar.
Hard to judge if he’s Championship or not as to my knowledge hasn’t played there or at least not much if he has but for the right price if we’re still at the same budgetary restrictions might be worth a gamble. Cost is everything because if he can’t cut it the resale value has to be break even.

When Prince takes over we will be shopping in Bundesliga 2 trying to sign random players like Norwich have so successfully done.

Collins and Danny Graham re no better than what we have and if you agree with me we desperately need pace and neither of Graham and Collins have that. Marriot is the one I wanted this windows but he would have cost us probably over 2 million. The young lad at Cheltenham seems a decent shout but I know little of him. Powell is likely to with Wigan in the Championship so can't see us getting him.

Personally I think if we are talking longer shots then Ellis Harrison has always impressed me, fast and at 24 still has time to improve. He's scored 14 goals in 40 games this season which isn't prolific but he could be an option of the bench with pace to change games. We desperately need more off the bench. Marriot would probably be a starter but I just can't see us spending the sort of cash to get him. If Peterborough don't go up though I'm sure he'll leave.

I'm onboard with this depending on cost, of all the names suggested so far this window this is the only one who even looks like a possible.

Sharp scored more than him in League one and we are trying to improve on Sharp?

CW had him at Northampton and AK had him at Torquay. So they know him well but From the Limited times I’ve seen him play he isn’t up to championship standard.

Sharp had a better team around him and a better manager directing him. We're going to struggle to improve on both Clarke and Sharp as we haven't got the resources, at which point some sort of risk has to be taken. When rank average 2nd tier players such as Hugill and Madine are going for 6-8 million, which I imagine is our transfer pot, Mitchell and co are going to have to work hard to unearth players we can afford and who will improve the team.

Agree 100% which is why players suggested such as K Moore / Hogan / Gallagher / Mandron etc have been linked.

We have to find someone who’s not in favour somewhere but Who has done it before. CW doesn’t seem to go for the old type players in there way down either.

So should be ideal for...

Rumour on pig board that they've offered £500k rising to £1m based on appearances/goals for his services

Really find that hard to believe.

Donny are still heavily involved in the promotion chase.
Selling Marquis would probably mean they’ve given up on promotion.
So suspect that they would want massive compensation to lose such an important player.

Not sure what his contract situation is but also remember that in January valuations are normally set higher than normal.
Would suspect that Donny , even if they are desperate would be wanting 2 or 3 milion.

I hope they have offered money for Marquis - what it shows is that the pigs are now chasing very low cost/low wage players to replace the large transfer/extremely high wage players they already have.

There's a fire sale brewing in S6 - their side come next August may be radically different to what they have now.
