There is something slightly unsavoury about taking advantage of Wigan’s misfortune by picking off their best players. However, other teams seem happy to do it and given the reduced budget we are working with I am not sure we are in a position to be taking the moral high ground, if we want to progress it is surely worth a look at situations like this.
Joe Gelhardt is only 18 and is very highly rated, having played for England at youth level. Apparently Leeds are closing in at an initial fee of £1m, which seems incredible value given what Dortmund have just paid for Jude Bellingham, who is a similar age albeit possibly at a slightly more advanced stage of his career. Can’t profess to know much about the lad, but the potential upside of a signing like this is huge with very limited risk. I wonder if we were interested, surety worth a punt?
