Jay O'Shea signed on loan from Chessy in the January transfer window and I believe he is out of contract with them in the summer.

In truth, I've only seen off the bench cameos from him myself.

Do you think he has done enough yet to earn a contract with us next year? Or is it simply a case of - possibly worth a punt as not likely to be too costly?

I'm hoping that we will have sealed the p word with a couple of games to go ... and that we can perhaps give Jay and the likes of Brooks, Reed etc some game time to take a view on their futures.

I like what Ben Whiteman has achieved during his time at Mansfield - so I would like to think he has a part to play in the squad next year too.

So maybe some tough decisions to be made about player futures with the Blades.

I'd say yay, he could easily fit into a bottom half / middle table Championship squad, he may be even starting quite a few as I expect us to be playing 4-5-1 in games at the big spending Parachute clubs next season.

Good question. He's definitely got something to offer and would be a good squad player. BUT do I see him starting? No. He can't get into the team now and I'd hope we would strengthen for next season.

I'd say, either give him a one year contract and hope he takes his opportunities, or set aside and hope for better.

Its a yay from me! 2 goals our only goal scoring midfielder. has a decent shot from distance unlike the others, a decent option off the bench and he is a good age. A 1 year contract with an option would be good for both parties

I don't think so.

I saw him as a short term signing to help get us up, someone to be a squad player and score the odd important goal, and that's exactly what he's done.

He'd be behind Duffy and Carruthers in the pecking order, we're also likely to strengthen further and we've also got to consider Brooks and Whiteman, who we should be looking to involve in order to keep them here long term.

But he's versatile and scores goals. So he's got a good chance of getting a contract. And if he doesn't he'll get a decent move elsewhere.

Yay. You can never have too many quality ball playing midfielders, especially in a league so highly dependent on that position like the championship. On top of this, he'll be on a free and on low-ish wages too so we can't loose really.

The difference between this season and previous ones is that even Wilders peripheral signings have contributed good things to our success.
O'Shea has never come up short when he's played, nor has Riley. Chapman has only played a bit-part role and that's a shame as he's demonstrated that he has that 'something' which drives us forward and I very much hope we have him in our plans for the longer term.

Depending on the deal, it would be a yay from me, he has more strength than most of the others (maybe not Fleck), and looks like he could drive into the box and not stop just outside it.

I haven't seen enough of him to know how good he is. I suspect that a player good enough for the Championship would not be warming our bench, as good as we are.

In general, players in the maybe pile when you step up a division end up as not good enough.

Think he's nailed on to sign. He's come in and grafted (according to wilder) he's made a few appearances and scored a few the Goal at Oldham was vital and won't be forgotten by Wilder. Plus it's a safe bet his wages are low.

We are going to need 25-30 professionals next season 2 for each position and the rest made up with kids

Reed
McNulty
Scougall
Hussey
James Wilson
Long
K.Wallace
Maybe Clarke?

This doesn't include any of the kids leaving on Loan. Good chance Whiteman will leave again but this time to League one.

So some heft recruitment to be done still.Brayford and O'Shea will help
Reduce some of that recruitment work

Money can be spent better elsewhere . OShea has had a cameo role , not been that good to cement a place regular in the first 11 . IMO it's a No.

Brooks , Reed , Whiteman not good enough , so let's not kid ourselves . Wilder has to be ruthless , there is no sentiment in football and Blades ain't a registered charity .

Wilder and Knill will already have a good idea who stays and goes .

It's a nay for me but only just. We have Duffy and Carruthers for the position and Brooks coming up behind. And there's no guarantee we will play with a number 10 next season. Jay doesn't convince me as a winger and I'd be more inclined to sign an out and out winger. That said, he's done OK and if he did sign as cover, it wouldn't bother me.

A defo nay from me - not done anywhere near enough and will be 3rd choice CAM next season behind Duffy & Carruthers (+ AN Other). Top half L1 standard but certainly not Champ.

Keep Jay. Who says we'll still have Duffy, Coutts and Fleck? It's not a given they will stay....

We'll need another overhaul of the squad which might see us saying goodbye to a few of the fan faves this season. It's just the way it is - you've got the refresh the squad - it worked for us in Jan (the comparator being Scunny who didn't and look what happened there).

UTB

People keep mentioning Bradford coming back.
I for one do not want him and subsequently hope that Burton stay up which will hopefully enable them to take him off our hands.
His wages our out of proportion with those of the rest of the squad ( with the exception of Sharp) and he is in my opinion not the player that he was when on loan.
He also plays in the same position of one of the players of the season.
Get rid and and use the money to bolster the squad, staring with a young understudy for Freeman

Back onto Jay O'Shea, I would say yes to keeping him. He has grabbed I think 10 goals this season. Think a good pre-season behind him he will look even better, will give him time to get use to our system, and get use to our high intensity in training.

Will he start 40 games next season? I doubt it, but would be a good player to have on the bench, we know CW likes some rotation in the squad and he would make a good squad player.

Completely with you on this, there is a very good player and a slightly different option to what we have and with a full pre-season could really surprise a few people, I think he would be a squad player and very good option for changing things up.

A championship version of Scougall!

Dunno really. He hasn't really been wahey! But he's been better than okay.

He's got a bit of physicality & attitude about him to add to his skills, & maybe he could be one of these hungry types desperate to be given a chance at a higher level.

But just hope that, as well as all these "pleasant on the eye" type midfielders, we'll also be looking to bring in a destructive or beastly/energetic type in too. We won't be getting it all our own way in the league above, after all.

Sorry to go slightly off topic, but I've seen a few people suggest that when promotion is mathmaticallyt assured we can play 'fringe' or youth players.

I don't get that.

For me, when promotion is assured, thats the time that a) as a player I'd revel in, playing with total freedom, playing in front of a relaxed crowd, playing with a buzz and b) as a fan, I want to see the players that have won us promotion playing under previously stated circumstances.

I guess the counter argument is that we don't want to risk our more established players getting injured (or certainly the ones we hope to keep next season), plus it gives the management a chance to see the players who haven't featured so often.

Its a Yay from me. It's not about an 11 man team its about a SQUAD and O'Shea will be a good asset over 46+ matches

Well that`s one way of looking at it, but I`d be well pissed off as a player, having worked my socks off all season to ensure promotion, to then be dropped for the " celebratory" games right at the end.
