Jay O'Shea

On a free, goal scoring midfielder, cover for Duffy or Fleck should we sell them - which is a possibility by the way. Sign him up

We have a starting 10 (Sharp plus another at top) that the rest of the squad are not good enough to get into the team. Add to that the question marks over Carruthers being here if true.

We have to bring in players who are better than the 10. That's how you push on those 10 players to play even better to keep their place and get even better.

Wilder said in his interview last week there was no room for sentiment so for me there is no new contract or room for the likes of Hussey, O'Shea, McNulty, Scougall, Clarke or Hanson, Done etc;

Then there's the shocks...

keep him useful asset to have got championship and premier league experience

Neow. He's looked decent enough and we can't guarantee him playing time, as he definitely wouldn't be starting. Should be in a starting XI somewhere.

We should be looking to sign a number 10 better than what we've got, not cover for them.

This. We need to improve the side as a whole. O'Shea is not a clear improvement on the starting eleven.

If he's the worst signing we make all summer, then that's probably OK. If all we're going to sign all summer is middling League 1 players who might do alright in the division above like O'Shea, Holmes and Evans then it's more of a nay. We can maybe afford the odd filler player that you can rely on as backup, but signings overall need to improve the squad.

I can not believe Chessy would have let him go only on a loan without something being in place where he was to sign for us in the Summer.

Chessy may have saved themselves some wages but in January they had a realistic chance of staying up. Unless something was agreed financially i would have thought he would have stayed at Chessy and helped them stay up.

10 starts 3 goals never played in a losing team for us
had worse players Id say

Neat and tidy on the ball, knack for scoring.

We need depth in midfield, and so for me it's a yes.
Part of a winning mentality, and will be in the wages bracket we are looking for as squad players.

Dint mean much, any player who has played in that sequence of games as similar stats, will he improve the team next season, possibly not.
means everything , why do clubs rely on stats therse days

baseball players in US wages are based on their stats
to play in 10 games and not lose means youve been 10 per cent responsible for it, at least
will he improve the team ,
well theres evidence hes not detracted from it more than some fan deciding he doesnt like him
clubs these days will not reject him on those figures

why have we won the league
weve won more games than anyone else
after that its which players have contibuted playing in unbeaten teams
not a random personal taste session

why would you invest in certain shares
they offer good returns , show some gains ,
investing in players is the same

100% sign.

Yes he won't play 46 games for us. But he can step in from bench and have a few starts also. If he's happy with that then he'll sign.

He's a goal scoring league one midfielder. He may or may not be good enough for Championship but he's worth a small risk.

Personally everyone in the squad who has been involved in this season deserves a go. I would sign him. He wont be demanding massive wages.

Wasn't there an undisclosed loan fee involved? I saw this as a deal that gave Chesterfield some cash (rather than seeing him leave for nothing) and gave O'Shea a chance of make a case for a permanent deal, while providing additional strength for our squad. I'd have thought not signing him would be in keeping with the decisions that might surprise, as Wilder put it.

I'm sure I've read somewhere there is a clause that if we go we have to pay some sort of fee. Chesterfield gambled that we would go up.
