Not sure about this one. Have to confess, I have only seen him a few times down here but has never really impressed me.

None of the Swindon fans I know are bothered that he has gone, although whilst there he played plenty of games. Clough would have had him at Derby so should know him well.

Interesting paragraph

McEveley began the 2008–09 season as first choice left back, but lost his place to new signing Jordan Stewart. He joined Preston North End on a one month loan on 29 September 2008, and made his debut in the 2–0 defeat against Swansea, conceding the penalty that lead to the second goal.[12] He returned to Derby at the end of October and a month later was sent out on loan again, this time for a three-month spell with Charlton. He returned from his loan spell early in January 2009 due to injury, and then went on to re-establish himself as the club's first choice left back. On 11 April 2009, in Derby's 1–0 win over Sheffield Wednesday, McEveley broke a metatarsal in his left foot, and was ruled out for the rest of the season.[13]

You can see the logic in that we only have one left back at the club, and we do lack height and strength, which McEveley will bring.

Our full backs lost headers before both Bristol City's goals on Saturday.

Not a very exciting addition though.

Think some people need to calm down. Clough has said repeatedly he needed another defensive player for cover? Not a bad cover player played quite a few times for Swindon or are not the worst team in the league.

Not a particularly exciting signing, though to be honest neither would Freeman have been. Which, given both players would be signed primarily as cover, is perfectly understandable.

We were supposed to be using the Harry money to improve the team. Not to provide cover what we already had.

Would Freeman have been cover? I doubt it. Still think we're looking for a first choice right back who can get forward.

I think he would. I think it's clear Clough has looked at the lineup, decided Davies needs to start, and that right back is the best place for him at the minute - I don't think Freeman's arrival would have changed that.

Clough essentially said that Davies was useful cover for a range of positions when he signed; I certainly don't think he's considered first choice right back - no matter his ability at set pieces. Freeman would have cost a good chunk and I doubt we'd have spent that much on a back-up.

I think Freeman was back up, but not for Davies, but for the rightback we haven't yet bought....

Or Alcock

That I can accept. Well, not the Alcock bit who I think was hoped to be back-up for the back 4 full stop.

Not a signing to light the fires, but good cover. Despite that we desperately need a top quality centre back, and we need to be spending money to get him.

I'm sure I heard Clough say yesterday something along the lines of "We have money but free transfers have worked out well for us in the past" which seemed a very odd comment

''I've got £200 burning a hole in my pocket, but fukkit, I'm going pulling in these Green Flash I normally do the gardening in. I'm that irresistable''.

No problem with this.
Harris no.1
McCeveley no.2's...

...erm, actually, that didn't come out right...
