What happened last time we paid decent money for a Leeds centre half? We got Neill Collins...and at the end of that season we got relegated. I'm not saying that the two are connected - on the whole I think Collins has been a decent player for us - but it goes to show that spending big does not bring success.

I'm also pretty sure that the rumours of a continuing search for a centre half mean that Butler's days as a United player are limited.

First thing a Leeds season ticket holder at work said was "He's a million times better than Collins". He thinks Leeds need to move him on and replace him with someone better but also thinks he'd be a great signing for a League 1 club.

Alcock and Davies were free transfers, arguably our best players so far. Would some on here feel better if we had paid 500k for each one? If I walk into the pub tonight and get offered a free pint of what I was about to order,I won't be insisting on paying for it

Oops yeah forgot him. I heard the other day, someone in the club reckoned that he's thought to be ahead of where Harry was in his development at the same age. Can't remember who said it though

Yeah but the fee agreed with the tribunal isn't in the public domain so therefore - he's shit !

We don't know what our signings cost, and in itself it doesn't matter. They certainly weren't free. But let's not make the mistakes of the past ( squandering lots of money) hide the fact that better players cost more money. The oft repeated response that we failed when we spent before aren't really relevant.

We can and should only spend what we have. Given the undisclosed nature of every deal, we can only guess. But my guess is that we didn't have a lot. I hadn't heard of any of our signings and if any other 3rd division club had signed them we wouldn't have noticed.

So as for the next unheard of player, I won't even guess. We will have to trust Clough, as most were happy to do so anyway.

My hunch is that it's he we'll have to thank for any success, and not any "investment".

True Swiss . But my hunch is that all our signings, including the unemployed Clough, we're attainable by Sheffield United without investment.

I'm fine with where we are and what we're doing, but for me the suggestion that we should be thankful, or that real investment will come later, makes me feel like I'm being bullshitted and I can do without that part.

The only thing we can do is wait and see.

I think if a lot of money is spent like Warnock did in our promotion season it could all be a waste at this level. You will have to pay more than asking price in wages and fee to get players to drop a league.

The flaw this season at the moment is not signing the best that were available in free transfers etc. Bristol seem to be the ones who got their pick of the best.

Every player we are linked with, every player we sign, every decision the board makes we have to bring the Club and owners down about. Some of our fans are so negative its embarrassing to support the same club as them.

This board is the reason we are still in this league and the future is actually looking bright. This time last season we had lost every game bar one, we had no investment and the club was pretty doomed!

This season we have signed 10/11 players (lost count) majority being proven League one and Championship players, how can we suggest a lack of investment?? We barely had a squad at the end of last season with the amount of dead wood we had set to be released.

The board have given Clough the money he needed to sign the players he wanted.

Wow, 20,000 fans have the board to thank for us clinging on to 3rd division survival.

How much have the board given Clough then?

"Leeds head coach David Hockaday says reported Sheffield United target Jason Pearce and other fringe players in his squad are going nowhere."

Unlike David Hockaday :D
Yeh, like hockaday makes those sort of decisions with the fruitcake owner they've now got. Didn't want kenny, because of the date of his birthday, or something just as stupid. WTF.

So Hockaday has now been sacked... And also, Pearce put on Twitter a couple of hours ago: "Dissapointed."

I easnt expecting anything other than what we got investment wise but the sale of yet another academy product and the total lack of any attempt to resign coady or brayford after raking in over a couple of million for a player we "didnt have to sell "
Has pissed me off
Spending that money wouldnt be "investing "it would be reapropreating

Buying players isn't like taking your cash into a supermarket and choosing between a 'value' lasagne or a 'taste the difference' lasagne. Players have to want to come and the clubs have to want to sell, which is not the case for coady & brayford. We're in league one... It doesn't matter how much money we've got, 'taste the difference' players don't want to play in this bargain bucket league.

strange analogy but we arent even going to the supermarket are we ? We are off down the food bank

This is a weird one, a player who has started every game in the Chumpionship this season, and is club captain, albeit in a team who appear rudderless to put it mildly. Maybe NC showed an interest during the Summer and it's juts lingered on a la Brayford but the fact he's been mentioned (including by NC himself) suggests maybe it's not dead in the water. As stated above, Hockaday's departure won't help but who knows what their madcap owner / new manager may have up their sleeves.

Wonder what Butler thinks about all this.

Rumour from Leeds Utd end:
Harry Maguire signing on loan for Leeds United and Jason Pearce joining Sheffield Utd on a permanent basis!

Sounds perfectly reasonable, as posted elsewhere, no professional point him coming back to us from his or 'Ull's point of view.

I think that sounds like a logical move all round.

I assume Harry must have been born on the right date for L**ds.
