Jason McCarthy and Neil Etheridge

IOut of the two, I've seen more of Smith and he's generally impressed me, particularly his shot stopping - he also always strikes me as a typical, off-his-head GK. Etheridge however dominates the penalty area and I don't recall him missing a thing in the games he played against Utd this season.

IMO either would provide excellent competition to Moore next season and would be a huge upgrade on poor old George.
He made a right fuck up against Man United, let Rashford close him down. Proper embarrassing, shows he's prone to the odd gaffe and you just don't see that in Moore.

Yep, that was very poor but I can't recall many other goal costing errors from him.

If not Utd, I assume some other Champ club will be in for him - perhaps Norwich having just released Ruddy?

Did you forget the rubbish he let in against Scunny?

Moore has done well, but let's not pretend he didn't have a rocky spell mid-season. There were a few games he benefitted from not being George Long and was given a free pass by the crowd.

To be fair to Moore, he's had relatively little to do for so much of the season that he's probably felt quite rusty for months :).

I'm not sure we can really assess him accurately on the basis of this season alone.

Moore is a good keeper no doubt but he is human like the rest and has made mistakes. His latest was gifting Chesterfield a penalty in our last game.

Simon Moore was voted the best in the league by his fellow professionals. No one else currently in this league touches him.

Ripley and Etheridge are better than him in my opinion.

Moore has had some good performances this year, but has also let in some poor goals.

There are better options out there for me.

Have you seen all of the goals that Ripley and Etheridge have let in this season? All keepers let in poor goals some times.

No, i haven't. And granted i haven't seen every 90 minutes of every game that Ripley and Etheridge have played in - because i am neither a Walsall fan nor an Oldham fan.

I'm not saying Moore is a bad keeper, i just think there are better options out there.

No one in this league touches him, hence why his fellow pros voted for him not Etheridge or Ripley. If we want better we would either have to go for someone in the Champ or Prem - or go foreign.
I'd sign Etheridge but not because he's better than Moore because he isn't.

Despite the fact Ripley had more clean sheets than Moore? (Or does that mean Oldham have a better defence than ours?)

Nobody can say with any certainty that Moore's the best keeper in the division.

From what I gather it seems like Connor Ripley was.

Etheridge looked good against us apart from for the last 10-15 mins at Walsall when he flapped at a few crosses.

This article reckons Wilder is going to make him No 1 next season as he's a big admirer which I find hard to believe

No way would Wilder make him no 1 Moore has the jersey and it's his to lose.If he brings in Etheridge that would put Moore under pressure which is no bad thing. There is a lot more to come from Moore and put under pressure would bring out the best in him
If Etheridge did replace Moore having won the jersey we would be the benefactors

I think we need another keeper to push Moore, wether we can get Etheridge will depend on what other clubs offer him with regards contract and first team football for me Moore keeps the shirt at the start of the season so don't think Wilder will offer him the shirt at the star of the season
