Thomas and heneghan out on loan, Lavery, Hanson and Carruthers out permanent. Leonard, oztumer, Cole or Wilson and maybe someone who covers wing back Joe Riley again? That would be a good window I think.

Heneghan - Loan
Thomas - Loan
Lavery - Loan
Hanson - 150k

Then sign 1/2 midfielders, 1/2 attackers and a wing back.

Donaldson - may well be a keeper. Did he sign on a 1 or 2 year deal, I can't remember? I've just seen nothing from him when he's come on. I'd not be unhappy with him staying as long as at least one other striker came in.

Lafferty - wasn't great last season but good enough at L1 level. I can't imagine him being good enough at this level. He does, in his favour, offer cover at LCB which we don't really have.

Thomas - I believe I'm right in saying that we tried to loan him out in the summer but he refused to go. If he's happy to go out on loan, then I'm happy for him to stay. The fact, even now, that he's not even getting on the bench is worrying.

Now theres an idea, lets complete the swap and try Blackman upfront.............

I thought Lafferty did well when he came on yesterday. Not outstanding, but we attacked more down the left (or right, as it faced us in the ground), once he came on.

I see Carruthers seems to be taking over from Lundstram as the current scapegoat. He’s started one game in however long, played poorly in a team which is currently playing poorly and some are saying he should be sold. This is just mere weeks after many on here were wanting him to start instead of the last scapegoat, Lundstram. It’s also just a few months after some on here were saying how good a pre-season he’d had and how he’d go on to have a good season.

He wasn't exactly outstanding at league 1 level and Burnley didn't think he could. He's decent as cover but we need an upgrade.

Burnley rated him as lower Champ level. Personally, I don't think he's even that good. However, I can't see him leaving in the JTW though due to (1) lack of cover at LWB, LCB and even CM and (2) other priorities i.e. CM, CF, RWB cover and possibly a winger and CB and CW not wanting to add another position requiring recruitment for.

Trouble is the players you get rid of would need replacing ,surely we have to be wise with our resources and just bring in 3 or 4 quality first teamers and keep the players we have as back up ,unless they are used as a bargaining tool.
Regarding Carruthers ,he is the one I would be looking to ship out ,as we might get some money and there is no way he can fit into our style of play.

So we sell 6 players when our squad is already too small, as proven today. So realistically we'd have to sign 8 new players! 8 new signings would be impressive for summer, let alone January. Personally I'd get shut of Carruthers and one of: Hanson and Lavery.

Thomas I'd loan out. Way too early to be off loading him. He hasn't even been given an opportunity yet .

I'm not sure the squad is too small. The problem with the squad is that it seems that those on the fringes just aren't up to it.
If they had have been, we wouldn't be looking to swap them or bring anyone extra in bar one or two.

Offer Wallsall a deal that involves them taking Carruthers and us getting the little Turk.

I like the Turkish Messi but I can't see Carruthers going to Walsall in a million years - he's too much of a Champagne Charlie for that.

We should just go and make them an offer they can't refuse - perhaps Big Vern could be involved.?

We need to bring players in, that's obvious, but we also need to get rid of those who aren't likely to feature or be good enough at this level. All of the following can leave for me:

Carruthers
Lafferty
Lavery
Donaldson (bit harsh as he's not really had a run, but shown nothing since the first game)
Thomas (since he can't even make the bench and seems disinclined to go out on loan)
Hanson

I'm ambivalent about Evans. There's a 1% chance he'll be as good as he was before prison and I doubt anyone would give us anything for him.

The Donaldson a funny one to be fair, along with Lavery who'll be on fuck all and one of our only genuine pacey threats.

I do wonder what would have happened with Donladson had he not got injured after scoring his second at Sunderland. Hes looked disinterested when he has appeared ever since.

That sounds too much like common sense.

Unless he's injured, going back in for Joe Riley wouldn't be the worst move.

Can play both full back and can also play central midfield. He's 6' as well so not small.

He'd also probably favour a loan and might see coming here one level up as some unfinished business.

Would also allow us to rest Stevens occasionally if people don't feel Lafferty is up to it.

He could be one of your 'midfield' options, with Leonard. It would give some flexibility then have Cole and AN Other.

Riley, Leonard, Cole and Murphy seems like a good shout.
