I've compiled a list of the players I would like Adkins to retain in January. Any player not on the list should be encouraged to leave.

1) Brayford
2) Baxter

Usually theres an out cry when we sell certain players and in the past its been fully justified. This January however there will be no moans from me who ever leaves, with just two exceptions.

Don't you issue a retained list in the summer?

The only players I'd be really sorry to see go are Adams and Brayford. That said, I think Sharp, Freeman, Basham, Sammon, JCR, Baxter, Collins, Edgar, Long etc all offer us something. McEveley, McFadzean, Cuvelier, Alcock, Howard, Woolford, Higdon, McNulty etc. will hopefully be moved on.

My serious thread has been hijacked by this guy Atkins, whats going on ;)

Come on Edinblade it's not that serious if you would only retain 2 players out of the whole squad, one of which has not played a game for us this season.

Clearly something is amiss but I just don't buy into the whole squad being hopeless. I do believe Adkins (or Atkins if you like) will turn it around without having to do wholesale changes.

Adams
Baxter
Brayford
Harris
Reed
Done

In an ideal world.

I think anybody expecting a massive clear out in January will probably be disappointed, I would guess that opportunity will arrive in June.

I don't think anyone is expecting a massive clear out in January, but I do expect 'some' of a clear out. Even if it just 3/4 players leaving, it is a start.

Each player we can get rid of who is not needed, will mean more time for coaching staff to spend with players who will be in the match squad.

I'm sorry but I can't see anything like a "clearout" in Jan. I'm sure a few of our players names will be touted around but can't see many takers. If we get rid of 3/4 on loan and bring a couple in we've done ok. Not what's required but it's the reality of having contracted players, we shouldn't pay up the contracts of anyone and they certainly won't walk away from easy money.

Season ticket brochure will be accompanied with a "big investment this summer" type sales pitch.

Difficult to really make cuts in January, unless some of the out of contract players realise the writing is on the wall and want to play football rather than sitting on their backsides.

If they dont get Baxter's contract sorted out, I can see him going as we know the club will be desperate to get some pennies - they wont give a toss about where we are in the league either (i.e keeping ours best players to try and get us promoted). If he goes we really will have zero quality left.

I think if we have any ambitions of promotion we need to do some serious business in January - continuing to loan out the shit players and buying in 2-3 decent signings, none of this fucking about right down to the last day - go for proven players in this league or league 2.

Most of us know what we need to do in January - I suspect on the 25th Jan there will be plenty of threads bemoaning our 'lack' of activity.

Don't think the youngsters have been too bad.

Wallace K.
Reed
Long
Adams

Possibly look at some of the young lads on loan. Kahn etc

Senior figures

Brayford
Possibly Bob Harris
JCR till next summer
Billy Sharp
Baxter
Done possibly

The rest I think can fuck off to whatever project Cloughie is fronting. I hope he gets a job soon so he can retain his friends.

Love to see loads moved on but reality is we will have to wait till the summer.

Surprised so many names are up on many of the lists:

If we could have a mass cull I would only keep

Brayford
Adams - although been poor recent
Sharp
Baxter - much improved this year - would consider giving him another year contract (only one I might retain)

Possible (as cover/subs):

JCR - Impact type sub
Done - As above but like to see him have a run as main striker again
Freeman - useful cover player
Basham - steady but ideally would only be sub as cover for defence/midfield. Too slow for me.
Wallace K - as above

Trouble is that means we need 7 new starting players!!! A keeper, two new centre backs, at least 2 new midfielders, maybe another winger and another striker

The rest I would not want to see at the club any further than they have to be. I would not keep any of the loan players either.

The mediocre/injury prone rest need to go. I would, if possible get shut of all of Howard, Long, Alcock, Collins, McGahey, McEveley, Coutts, J Wallace, Scougall, Woolford, Harris, Reed Higdon, McNulty, Flynn, Mcfadzean, Cuvelier, Kennedy (harsh in some ways but never fit) etc. That's 18 players that really have contributed very little to halting our demise.

Surprised likes of Harris on peoples lists. Been a part of a rotten defence for over 2 seasons and quite error ridden defensively. I would play Freeman left back and Brayford right back when he is back; I know that affects balance but we cant be any worse at the back! I think K Wallace has actually been better than Harris.

Also maybe you argue for Reed staying but since this so called promise I can barely remember a good game he has had in the last 12 months - did ok in the cup game v Soton and maybe FA cup v Crewe. Rest of the time he has been really poor when he has started.

Agree with all of that apart from the retention of Sharp who I think should go the way of the rest of 'em. Don't trust Adkins to do the recruiting though.

Why would anyone not want to keep Done? He has scored 9 in 17 starts, which is more than 1 in 2 and still some of our fans are saying he is no longer good enough, it really is baffling sometimes. Mcnultys' record is pretty good for us also but it seems that some of our fans seem to want more than goals out of forwards, which when you need goals to win games and you're not getting many from midfield (Baxter apart) then it really is baffling sometimes.

Lets face it, if they had other good attributes along with the goals scored they wouldn't be playing at the level we find ourselves currently, they would obviously be playing higher, we need goalscorers and other players to help us get out of this league and Done has to be one of the first players on the teamsheet, along with another match winner Baxter.
