I’m amazed how many people are willing to judge Robinson and McBurnie on the basis of such a short time span. The only reason we get rid early is if their attitude stinks, or in the hugely unlikely scenario Wilder can trade in to upgrade.

We invest in players in their early 20s for a very good reason. If fans aren’t patient enough to back them properly then they need a stiff dose of financial realism.

Wilder won’t give a fuck about appeasing the fan base, he’ll do what’s right for the club.

FWIW, I think mcburnie will come good after around a year with the club. And when he comes good, he will come VERY good.

I would assume so. He hasn’t played in La Liga all season, 4 appearances in the Europa League (2 goals 2 assists).

I would say loan £1m-£2m loan fee with an option to buy in the summer for £8m-£10m
 
McB has done nothing to suggest we would get anything like any return on his transfer money wise.
As it stands we look to lose at least £10m (if we pay £20m as was reported)
So even though we are in the premier league I cannot see Wilder looking to cut his losses and sell, as nobody would pay close to what we would want and be prepared to lose.

More likely a loan to try and either regain some form and sharpness totry him again, or hope he starts scoring plenty so another club wants to buy him.

But I agree we are light up top.
McB as above
Robinson...similar to McB but we would still probably find a buyer if we wanted to sell for 4/5m.
Sharp/Clarke- experience but generally seemed to struggle to offer much outside the penalty area. Mousset has shown you need pace and power up top to trouble defenders in the premier league. Sharp May have a role late on off the bench if we are pushing teams back looking to score, or protecting a lead. But in games where it’s an even contest and we are struggling to create neither of these two offer a lot sadly.

So if Mousset gets injured, we could have another Hulse moment! Wilder needs to address this as his main priority. If he fails in January then we really need to hope something clicks with Robinson, and McB. Get it right...well we could have a truly special season.

Financial realism? So its wrong to expect better for 17 million? Football realism should be the true currency. Theres a reason Wilder's not picking Mcburnie. Or are people doubting Wilders judgement? FWIW I have no problem putting my cards on the table. I dont think he's good enough. I really hope at the end of the season I'm eating humble pie, I want him to be a success, just dont see it. Scapegoat? People need scapegoats when things are going wrong. Were 5th in the premier league, do me a favour.

Nicholas Pepe cost Arsenal £70mil and has yet to score in the Premier League
Joelinton cost Newcastle £50mil and scored as many as Oli has in more games
'He cost x money!!!' is no longer a valid reason to judge a player in terms of 'instant impact' - it's not that straightforward.

Writing a player off after 3 months is really fucking stupid as well by the way, reeeeeally fucking stupid. Especially when we weren't as free flowing and adventurous as we've become since minute 1 of the Burnley game.
 
We are a solid top flight striker (i won't say World Class) away from being genuine Top 6 contenders.

Imagine if Aubameyang, Vardy, Lacazette or the like played in our system - deadly!

So... how do we find a Top Flight, 20-goal a season striker?
 



The JTW is always over priced and regardless of how well we might be doing, we should stick to our spending model. If we have limited funds, focus on quality in a couple of positions.

As far as I can see the only obvious upgrade we need is a replacement for K.Freeman. Great as he has been for us, I think he plateau'd in the Championship and should look to finish his career in there. He can leave with some amazing memories and his head held high.

Maybe we can do better than Besic in midfield and maybe we can get an upgrade on Stearman, depending on how far the pot will stretch.

It's going to be a tough call with the likes of Robison, Morrison and McBurnie, as neither has really been here that long and all are adjusting to a new level - granted that Morrison and McB have played in the PL before, but that was a few years back now.

Just because most of our players have stepped up quickly and seamlessly we think everyone should, and that's fine because the expectations have to be as high as possible for every player. But, remember how most of us felt about Lundstram not so long ago... some players just need a bit more time and are worth persevering with.
 
I think we will go for a young 'shit off a shovel' black striker, or maybe 2 if the price is right. We are solid as fuck but do need that outlet ball. Moose is doing brilliant but imagine 2 Mooses to hit - or even a Moose replacement if he's injured or not on it. Tufty clearly wants Robinson to fit this slot but it's not quite happening atm.

It'd also be good to ship out 3 or 4 backup to backup players - Stearman, Clarke, Morrison maybe but that might prove difficult cos of wage demands.

Extremely difficult to get someone with better 20 goal potential.

Simple fitness and match sharpness will get him most of the way there. Let alone any further improvements to his game.

One injury or ban to any of the Midfield trio and Besic will be in the starting 11, Ravel will play a part further down the line.

Bryan

and maybe even Stearman.

Whilst the contract offered to him at Sunderland was down to the club and agent, he was still happy to sit around and bleed that club dry, knowing how strapped for cash they were at the time, when he could have looked for a transfer.

I am not sure that he has the hunger required to be part of a Wilder team.

I dont care a monkey's what other teams are paying for players, that's down to them. Thanks for your in depth insight by the way. Can you answer the question posed as to why Wilders not starting him? Doesn't fit our style? Horses for courses? Or just doesn't fancy him? Presumably he sees him train every day.

He's not starting him because McGoldrick and Mousset are quite clearly the best combination we have at this moment in time. McB's time will come and I think he'll deliver, there's a good player in there.

I think you may be underestimating the mental and emotional side, and also the fact that we have to work so much harder to compete with better teams. The players will literally be drained after a premier League game in a way that never happened in the championship.

Brains not your strong point?
My point was pretty clear, you can’t expect an instant impact in the Premier League. The price doesn’t matter. There are strikers cost a LOT more than Oli who haven’t got up and running for about a season and half in this division so writing him off is fucking daft.

I mean it’s just a guess but I’d suggest it’s probably because Mousset and McGoldrick are playing extremely well right now so there’s no justification for starting him.

Same goes for all his other summer signings who are currently being kept out by the promotion winning XI.
