Jamie Hoyland resigns!

It's the travelling from the other side of the Pennines which has caused him to resign based on his tweets.

I wouldn't think it'll be a place for Pemberton now, because we have Walmsley, Cox and Unsworth already involved. We'll probably promote a coach from within. Travis Binnion has been involved a couple of times so he could be a candidate.

That seems rather bizarre - the last time I heard his name he was in the Academy!

He had to retire because of injury a few years ago and took up coaching. He seems to be doing a good job - I've reffed a couple of games where he's been manager and his knowledge of the game and talking to younger players is excellent.

So he's chosen unemployment rather than staying in a good job at his favourite club? Something must have happened behind the scenes surely.

Nowt against Trav, but I really hope not. I still think he's best suited to coaching the kids but since his Pembo cl0ne treatments kicked in I would be surprised if he wasn't considered.

Surely we will be unable to promote from within unless we get another coach in due to the new youth system rules?

The new Academy rules state you have to have a minimum of full time (and part-time) coaches and the Head of The Academy cannot be one of the coaches.

Looks like Travis Binnion is doing the job for the rest of the season. Be interesting to see who takes over permanently.

Not a bad start, that.

Sheffield United U18s (Smith 2, McDonough, ?) 4-1 Sheffield Wednesday U18s (A.N.Other-Giant)

I have a feeling that he was forced to retire aged 22 following a series of injuries. Does it really matter what his playing career achieved? He's coaching the U18s, not trying to break into the first team.

Probably not and for all I know he may be a brilliant coach. On the other hand he could just be very cheap.

He's only 26 and managed the massive total of 6 games in the Finnish Premier League.

He did retire due to injury. It was his knee I think, had problems when he was 17/18 if I remember correctly and just couldn't shift it.

He's been involved with some of the younger age groups and seems to have done OK, but I'm not sure if the club see it as a long term solution. He has definitely been involved in coaching the U18s this season, sd he's been on the touchline with Hoyland and Unsworth a few times so it was probably the easy option while the recruitment process takes place now and over the summer.

Another one that went on to play at a higher level than us.... ;)

I rather suspect the Finnish Premier League is on a par with our Conference, but I will let you contradict me as I am sure you know more about Scandinavian football than I do :-)*

* I appreciate that, on some definitions, Finland is not part of Scandanavia....

travis binnion is a great name.

A name I couldn't remember just now. Rather bizarrely I was just in Tesco Express on West Street when the security guard came into the street to talk to me. At first I thought I was in trouble, but it turned out he wanted to talk to me about Sheffield United. I soon realised that because the new slimline Greenwich now looks vaguely athletic, and because I was carrying a Sheffield United holdall, he perhaps thought I had some influence down at the Lane.

Anyway, he wanted to know if his 16-year-old nephew from the Cameroon would be well-advised to get in touch with our academy. He didn't look too disappointed when I told him I worked for Tesco also, but folks, if next season we have a young Cameroonian on the books, you'll know my advice of "pop down there tomorrow and have a word, but make sure we've won first, because then they'll be in a good mood" will have proved sound advice indeed.

if anybody knows travis, can they ask him if he's seen this woman recently? :D
