James McAtee

They sold a teenager with zero professional games to Southampton for 14 million and he didn't even have the English add on to that fee. I think 14 million would be the absolute minimum we could expect to get him for
They won't get more than £15m for Doyle so it's either getting that figure, loaning him somewhere again or integrating him into their team. They have far better players available to them than Doyle so I don't think he has a future in their first team.

Doyle is very good but he's not torn the league apart, I don't think his stock is ridiculously high. City will probably have 3 other versions of Doyle waiting in the wings

His stock is higher than someone who never kicked a ball in a man's game though

I think Southampton also attempted to sign McAtee in the summer but they rejected any enquiry. City will know how good a player is & the price tag will reflect.

The only thing I can think of with Banzunu is that they'd already let Muric & Steffan leave so maybe Southampton had to pay a premium to get him. He'd just had a decent season at Pompey too.

With Edozie they had allowed Sancho's contract to run down and he ended up selling for over £80m with Dortmund so there was probably a premium with this in mind, the reported figures were £8m

The positive for me is man city will trust us with their prospects as we've done well with mcatee and Doyle

Seeing peps interview again it seems like he would have wanted em to play in the SF for game experience. (If allowed)

It’s in two rags this morning

Based on promotion, Hecky after loaning back McAtee and buying Doyle. Fee mentioned £10m

Says keeping McAtee at City is how Pep sees it.
That would be ideal!

Am I the only one who thinks McAtee will be a luxury player next season in a team that will spend a lot more time defending that attacking?

Cracking player but won't suit what we need next season.
We will still need to score goals though, that’s the key thing that keeps teams up.

Possibly but he would create chances. Personally I hope PH avoids the temptation to play a flat mid 3 (which Wilder went with in a bid to solidify), otherwise the front 2 will again be isolated and feed off scraps and set-pieces. I guess it will depend on who the two pivot players will be in CM. Norwood and Fleck weren't good or robust enough last time - not sure Doyle and Berge would be either tbh.

If we set out with the mindset we will be a defending team we are fucked already. Got to go for it and get the goals/results.. We need to do everything possible to get McAtee.

I do agree, it will depend very much how we set our stall out. He's a fantastic player, however I'm not sure I'd use one of the loans on him if we could get something more 'premier league proven' instead.

The danger being that Prem loans only tend to become available late in the window (once squads have been confirmed). It may be unavoidable but I would expect PH to want to know who will be coming in asap.

Know what your saying but he’s a young kid, had his first taste of senior football and thrived. From the start of his loan to where he is now the progression has been at a fast rate, that will continue and without doubt he is premiership quality for next season. If that’s with us God only knows but I hope it is.

Not sure they'll be much danger of him being included in city's squad. They have 2 full first teams before Doyle even gets a sniff.

Only way to stop defending is to start attacking.

City's position hasn't changed since the summer, they see Doyle as a future PL level player, but not at Citeh and they see McAtee as having the potential to be in the first team squad, but are happy to give him a couple of seasons to prove it. They were happy to agree sale terms for Doyle as part of the loan deal, but weren't for McAtee.

And I think they've got it spot on.

We'll need goals.
We'll need someone to break.
We'll need someone to unlock a defence.
We'll need technical ability.
We'll need someone direct.
And We'll need someone thats different to what we have.

Is he ready? I'm not sure. Is he strong enough or consistent enough yet? I dont know.
But, he was one of our best players this season and a huge reason we managed to get up. Add to it all the list above and I think he'd be a huge loan again for us IF we get the second loan right as well.
