After potentially making one really bad mistake, he could then go on to make a second, third or fourth. So you see he is potentially catastrophe prone, possibly, perhaps.

He's not done a lot wrong and as long at that continues the better. BUT I do have this nagging feeling that errors are just around the corner. Hope I'm wrong and he continues to hold his place

He has done well but I still have an uneasy feeling that he will prove to have some real "bombscare" moments a la Simon Tracey.

What we really need is someone who looks like a rabbit in the headlights (yes Derek, talking about you in '79) and gets a bit panicky. All this calmness is putting the defence to sleep.

I'm coming to the opinion that he is quite the opposite to most keepers who think it is imperative to make their minds up quickly and commit 100% to their decided actions.

Blackman has a mighty physical presence in every situation. His instinct tells him to pause in many situations others would commit. Up to now it has hardly failed him and I'm sure his mighty presence, coupled with the 'pause', confuses the opposition striker who also hesitates. By holding his ground and being so big, the striker has a lot to do to get the ball past him.

My wife says he plays "like a cat" - waits and waits and then springs into life. Certainly once he does decide to commit he moves very quickly.

Can't really find any criticism of Blackman, just like I can't find any real criticism of Simon Moore. I rate them both highly as competent, relatively young goalkeepers both with bags of potential. Blackman has done very, very well so far, and as I see it the shirt is his at the minute, and I can only see him developing and getting better as the season progresses.

Being blessed with two quality keepers is a nice position to be in, especially as two years ago we had Mark Howard and George Long competing for the shirt.

for once we have two Keepers that are more than capable, in fact in most positions we have not cover but someone who is more than Capable to step in, we have a team through to the very core all interchangeable and each ready to play there part over the season.

Interesting post. I like to read a post which makes me think at the end that I've learnt something that hadn't occurred to me. Mind you, it looks like it's your wife that deserves the credit.

Having achieved that with Mitchell's help, Wilder and Knill know exactly how to organise and motivate that squad.

What about him putting the net back on the crossbar at the start of the second half ,he didn't even have to straighten his arm ,we used to have to get on shoulders to take the nets down when I was playing

I think he's been decent, and better than I thought, but I do think this has been as much about how well the team is play rather than just Blackman.

I think Moore would look just as impressive behind this defence.

It's a strange one because he looks like an accident waiting to happen sometimes but, so far, no accidents have occurred.

I think Pete has a point that he has been protected well, that makes up for his lack of conviction coming out for the ball. It could be the reason for it however.

That plus his obvious strengths, size and domination of his 6 yard box, has helped us to third in the table so no complaints from me.

I couldn't give a shiny about his distribution TBF.

I think a large part of the reason we’ve started so well is down to Blackman. Look at how re-assured our defence is with him there. I rate Moore too but I just think we’ve got a gem in Blackman. Wouldn’t surprise me if he ended up between the sticks for England, he’s got all the attributes. In terms of young loanees Wilder has done it again with him and Carter-vickers , absolute class.
