Has Moore been outstanding for the u23s?
 
Blackman has been very impressive, played a very strong debut and has matured and gained confidence since. He could certainly improve on coming for crosses and for such a big lad SHOULD be imposing himself in this way. That’s not to say that he doesn’t command his box because he does. However I just don’t think he’s the type of keeper to rush at crosses if they’re too far away

In fairness I don’t think this is a problem, but an observation on his style. The defence certainly seem comfortable with him and that’s always a good thing

Keeping Simon Moore out is a big plus. You can guarantee that Moore will be raring to go should Blackman miss a game

I think Blackman has more potential to get sent off for a mistimed challenge on a striker taking the man not the ball. So that risk is always there
 
I love blacky but my only misgivings is he just doesn't talk and when Wright doesn't play the defence lacks organisation

Some of the goals he concedes seem a bit soft and saveable and he doesn't seem to make many saves either

But I'm not sure he deserves to be dropped

I agree.

He has done well but I still have an uneasy feeling that he will prove to have some real "bombscare" moments a la Simon Tracey.

Let's hope that they're very infrequent, or better still I'm totally wrong.

He can be a bit hesitant, rather than decisive, when he comes off his line, but well done to the lad so far.
 
He's made an impressive start for a young keeper playing at this level for the first time, having previously played no higher than league two. He's a real athlete too. Will only get better.
 
He’s a very good goal keeper. Will go on to be better than Simon Moore.
 



I think the kid’s done well for us over the first quarter of the season and will only get better with experience. I rate Moore but it’s makes no sense to change things around while he’s doing ok.

It’s different for keepers compared to outfield players, I think most managers wouldn’t change a keeper who’s doing a job for him unless the other one was totally outstanding, and Moore will know the score as much as anybody. If Blackman has a knock then it’ll be up to Moore to keep him out, it’s a win-win for all the right reasons as far as the club is concerned, and a level of competition that we haven’t had at the Lane since Tracey and Kelly.

I don't disagree with that Swiss. Maybe I'd temper it a bit and say he's been "impressive" on occasions rather than "very impressive". I think he played out of skin in the first game v Brentford and made some great saves. I think he plucked just about every ball out the air the other week at Bolton, when we were facing an aerial bombardment. Although if I am being totally honest about that, he dropped 2 or 3 of them but caught them at the second attempt. However, the guy just seems rather dozy to me. Whether that's a bit of Afro-Carribean laid back-ness, I don't know. But, it does concern me. I'm convinced we are going to see him dawdle to such an extent that he'll end up giving the ball away straight to one of the opposing forwards. I also think he's looked very slow getting down to low shots - and I do think he should have done better with three or four of those so far this season. Add to that, he can't kick the ball out of his hands - and I'm sorry but I can't sign up to the "very impressive" description.

Having said that, I'd leave him between the sticks for now. He's not dropped any major bollocks so far, but I'm concerned there's a big one coming up soon if he carries on being that laid back!

I don’t actually think Brentford was his best game, but it was probably his busiest. He’s grown in confidence since then.

I have not seen the u23 matches too so neither you or me should be making judgements on whether Moore is ready to go back in goal.

Blackman's sheer size probably caused the Wolves penalty taker to hit his shot a bit wider than he would have liked. As for crosses from corner or from open play it is a waste of time for the opponents to hit them towards the 6 yards box

I commented to my pal just before the wolves penalty that the goal looked full with Blackman stood in it and I wouldn't fancy anybody's chances from 18 yards.

And you're right about the 6 yard box. He owns it. I just have my doubts about his ability to get down low quick enough given his size.
 
Can't see what Blackman has done wrong to be considered being replaced. If he could "get down" a bit quicker he would be playing in the Prem. The only thing that let's him down is his kicking, but that has improved considerably since his first game when it couldn't have been much worse. As we are now, I can only see him getting better and better.
 



To me he always seemed to have a bombscare moment in him, but I haven't seen that at all in the last 3 or 4 games. Bolton was the one that stood out for me. Every time the high balls came in I was waiting for the clanger and it never came.

He's won my confidence. I like him. And it's quite likely that he's only going to get better for the experience he's gaining.
