Jake Wright has played 17 games for United this season.

Our record in those games is W14 D3 L0

That's remarkable.

We have centre halves who are bigger, quicker, better on the ball, more of a threat in the opposition's box; but in terms of positioning, reading the game, concentration, determination, tackling he's been excellent every time, and in that central role he does seem our best option.

Imagine where we'd be now if Wilder hadn't been struck down with that temporary blindness.
Strange that you felt the need to bump this thread when someone had already bumped a similar Jake Wright thread and someone else had made a new one.

99% of Blades were calling for his return weeks ago too. You're no genius.

Not only is he the calming influence and leader in between JOC and EEL, but also a great mentor, if JOC especially can pick up a few of JWs traits im more than confident he can hold his own in the Championship next season should we go up Unfortunately it maybe a step to far for JW.

Got to be
Basham
Wright
O'Connell
From now on

Those three have the right balance of experience and athleticsm strength in different areas and having basham as an outlet helps. Their number 9 was ineffectual second half O'Connell and basham marshalled by Wright will keep most forwards quiet.

Quality today. Reminds me of Holdsworth at the back. Their number nine was a real handful all afternoon. O'Connell terrific again too as was Fleck.
Hanson gave us another option and for a change their centre halves had a battle on.
Although not superb I would like to be the first (I think) to christen him Super Hans. ... in anticipation that he will be .

No brainer, he's a fantastic defender.
We are currently in a position that we have a plethora of quality at our disposal.
Long may it continue.
Loving the ride.

Jake Wright's footballing intelligence is off the scale. The guy's a "journeyman", but he's been able to step up at this level, this late in his career, with the utmost ease (& even to boss games).

So glad that he's back in the line-up. I'd feared Chris was going to be doggedly stubborn over this, & stick to his guns on the Bash-EEL-JOC trio.

Have you noticed how he seems to take time to just hold back and analyse the situation when a high ball is coming into the box Alf? He never gets drawn to the ball, that's why he always seems to be in the right place at the right time. Maybe with that bit of luck that every player needs he could have played at a higher level, he's certainly got an excellent footballing brain.

all through the game he is pointing, shouting, positioning and encouraging. his positional play is superb. we are a different outfit with him on the field, balanced and solid

Not only did he keep the back line in the correct position, he was also telling Simon Moore where to stand, etc., Jake Wright might not be the biggest, tallest, fastest player, nor the most technical, but his positional sense is fantastic for League One.

Baffles me how when Billy goes off, he hands the captains armband to Coutts and not to JW who should be the obvious choice.

He Reads the game.

I know it's a different level and era but he reminds me of when Tony Adams was orchestrating the England back three alongside Campbell and Southgate under Hoddle.

Don't move him from there Mr. Wilder.

He'll never be as good at pointing as James Harper, now he could point..Never mind..Jake Wright my MoM today. He just brings the best out of our defence. And exactly what we needed after our recent wobble..Who would have thought, when he came, he could prove to be one of Wilder's most astute signings...Proper team performance today :)...UTB

How long a contract did he sign? I'm confident he could do it in the championship, his main traits are equally as required and transferable into any level. Some were saying league one was too high for him yet he's a crucial cog in it. Keep him here for the remainder of his career then get him in as a coach.

JW suits the prefered Wilder way of playing. Watch him! He move the back line two or tree yards further forward all the time Does not seem a lot but it enables us to play the pressing game and avoids the disconnect and vast distance between out three line we have seen in the last three seasons.

Love to watch him play. He is the brains/general/organiser of the defence. EEL is the muscle/enforcer. I think EEL is half the player when JW is not playing hence some of the recent upsets. I have always had my concerns about EEL playing without JW and personally I wouldn't sign him permanently to play in the Championship if we are there next season. I would however give JW another year.

I don't think JW needs an armband, he's a leader anyway. What he does to the team is what Adkins brought Hammond in to do, only JW does it so well it isn't 'unseen'.

funny people said the same about Morgs when we went up to the Prem (self included)

Agree with your comments on Jake Wright. He makes defending look so simple. It's no suprise we won and didnt concede today. He will be a really important player for us going into the final months of the season.
