Considering he's (at the moment) our second choice keeper - is he any good?

I can't remember having actually watching him play for the 23's as whatever games I watched last year has Long in goal.

So frequent Eastwood watchers, would you be happy going in to the season with him as second choice?

Presumably he'll be the first choice for the u23s and he'll have to prove himself there. Good performances consistently.

I think having just him and Moore would mean we could get an emergency loan keeper if Moore was injured. It might be a better option than paying some old timer to sit on the bench.

That's right Bushblade. As Eastwood has fewer than 5 pro appearances for the club (zero in fact) an emergency loan keeper could be brought in at any time if Moore were injured even outside the transfer/loan window.

Whether Wilder views this as a viable option I really have no idea.

I'm a frequent U18/U23 (and therefore Jake Eastwood) watcher. But, I'm no use to you. I go to the games to enjoy them in the moment, sometimes to get to a new place, maybe a brewery, have a beer. I just haven't got it in me to think "is he good enough?". I know that makes me a deviant. I Blogged yesterday, that I think they'll try & fetch someone in as number 2 number 1. I'm very much a Little Blader. I care about First Team results. But, I also care about the identity of the Club. I don't want any Club called Sheffield United to be successful in the Championship. I want a Club I recognise as MY Sheffield United to be successful in the Championship. I say that, because it means my default attitude when asked about SUFC Youngsters is - of course, they'll be alright, play 'em. I welcome the McCabe/Wilder/Sharp axis. And I can't wait until we're rid of the Saudi/Turkish influence.

So, naturally, I'd have Eastwood as number 2, no worries. But, I'm not a complete Mug - that's not what you were really asking. But, sorry, I can't help. I did once try to pretend I was his Dad in order to get in free. With DISASTROUS results

This brewery, did you visit it before posting? I suspect your trail of thought is inspired but I'm not sure if you were smashed when writing it, or whether I've drank too much or not enough before reading it.

Love a moonshine, me.

Okay here goes.

I am not 100% convinced. Lets put it this way. When Long played for the 23s last season the team looked stronger, the defenders looked more comfortable.

There is no chance what so ever that we will go into next season as Eastwood as our number 2 keeper. This is the time we need an experienced keeper as back up just in case of emergencies.

So a National League loan for Eastwood and a new number 2 in?
The 'homegrown' player we have to have in each squad in that case will have to be Brooks, Reed, Graham or another.

Excellent post Ball_Sup. I'm just the same. I can see the blindingly brilliant and the obviously poor but anything in between is flies straight over my head. To be fair I imagine a lot of posters on here are the same if they would be brave enough to admit it.

I know exactly what you mean about the Blades identity. There is nothing better than a local team with local players chaired by the local scrapman! (or Mr McCabe..).

Some on here see it so differently though, with derogatory terms such as 'Bladey'. They take every opportunity to knock academy lads and whilst of course they have to be good enough it's naive to think we only ought to play or buy any player when they are at the pinnacle of their career.

Looked indecisive on his walk to the podium before the rest of the first team squad at the Chesterfield game. For that reason, it's a No from me.

The match day squad consists of 18 players. One of which does not get a shirt.

With that in mind i would say the three who would be classed as homegrown would be Sharp, Brookes and Eastwood. With Eastwood dropping out as 18th man.
Last season the 18 man squad consisted of Sharp, Long plus either Reed, Brookes. With Reed or Brookes dropping out.

I could be wrong though.

Home Grown Rule:

At present, Section 5 of the EFL’s Rules and Regulations (“EFL Rules and Regulations”) requires each EFL club to nominate 6 home grown players on their team sheet for each league match (which includes Play-Off matches) (Rule 33.7).

Following the EFL’s recent announcement, EFL clubs have agreed to increasethat number to 7 for the 2018-19 season.

A “Home Grown Player” is defined in the (Rule 33.8) as a player who:

  • irrespective of their nationality or age, has been registered with either:
    • their current club (who is a member of the EFL); and/or
    • a club and/or any other football club affiliated with the Football Association (“FA“) or Football Association of Wales (for example, EPL or non-league clubs)
    • for a period, continuous or non-continuous, of three seasons or 36 months prior to his 21st birthday (or the end of the season during which they turn 21).
In addition to the increase in home grown players that will be required on EFL’s clubs team sheets, a new definition will be introduced to the EFL Rules and Regulations, that of the “club-developed” player. Each EFL club will need to include one “club-developed” player in their match day squad, who will be defined as a player who has been registered with their current team for at least 12 months prior to the end of their U19 season. Should a club fail to name such a player, they will only be able to name 6 substitutes rather than the normal allocation of 7.
