Liverpool head the queue for £9m-rated Blades star

09:55 January, 9, 2007
Sheffield United's Phil Jagielka will reportedly move to Anfield at the end of the season if the Bramall Lane club do not stay in the Premiership

The 24-year-old academy product was often linked with a move to the top-flight before the Blades' won promotion last season.

His displays this season have added to his list of admirers and reports on Tuesday suggest that Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has secured first option on the player in the event of relegation for Neil Warnock's side.

Looks like if we go down they get him.

Even more reason to stay up. :)

"Rafael Benitez has secured first option on the player in the event of relegation for Neil Warnock's side" - and what do we get in return for this "agreement"?

And to echo RB's sentiment, £9m? Fook me! :D

If the Agreement does indeed exist, it's usually a small token of their appreciation in the for of some ££

I meant in order to forge the agreement

£9 million? Well I wouldn't bedgrudge him going for that figure :D

9 million for jagielka!!

Have they not seen him play in midfield? Christ, that would be some deal, sell him now if there offering that.

Good player, never worth 9 million pounds though.

If Ashley Young is worth £10mill then so is Jag's.

If someone is willing to pay that much for Jag's then he's worth it.

I would snatch their hands off if they were willing to pay 9million for him if we went down!

I'd sell him for 9 million now if they offered it!

Jags is a great player for us but im sure we could bring better players in for that amount

Oh yeh i love him here at the club but if that kind of money was offered we'd be fools not to accept it!

 we'd need a sub goalkeeper

wouldn't like to see him go, or us go down, but if worst comes to worst it would be a good deal

I dont think anybody is stupid enough to value Young at 10 million pounds, the same for jags.

6 million is about jagielka's value.

9million for jags is a very good deal. Would be stupid to sell him now. Very much doubt they would offer 9mill now anyway.

We may as well agree to sell the training ground cat if a meteor strikes. £9 mill for Jags if we go down? There's a lot of "ifs" between now and the end of the season.
"If" my auntie had bollocks, she'd be my uncle.

The difference between Young and Jags is that Charlton have named the price for their player, whereas the price for Jags has come from an outside source - that is, someone willing to pay the amount. Players are worth as much as anyone will pay for them, which is not necessarily the same as what the club for whom they play value them at.

I'd rather not sell him anyway, even for 9 million. We're a premiership club now and have no need at all to be a selling club - we'll never compete with the big names if we sell off all our talent. That said, I maybe could understand Jags wanting to leave if we did go down. If.

"Sheffield United have moved quickly to deny that an agreement is in place with Liverpool for skipper Phil Jagielka.

Reports had claimed that The Reds had already secured a deal worth £9 million for Jagielka - should The Blades be relegated.

However, Blades chairman Terry Robinson has insisted there is no truth in the claims.

"We have not spoken to Liverpool about Phil," said Robinson.

"There have been no talks, no approaches, no contact whatsoever. Anyone who suggests otherwise is speaking rubbish."

Jagielka has had an outstanding season in the Premiership since United's promotion, playing in both midfield and defence, and a host of clubs are sure to fight for his services, should he become available."
