Incoming? Jack Payne

He's the impressive Southend number 10 who played well against us last season. Hasn't got much of a chance at Huddersfield, but wouldn't come here to sit on the bench. So I wouldn't expect this to happen.

Why would he be on the bench, he would be fine next to to Billy every game!

That could possibly work, but he's an attacking midfielder, not a striker. It's Duffy's position he'd be competing for, and probably only that position because playing deeper doesn't suit him. Good player but not sure it'd be the smartest signing.

That's fine, if he'd prefer to play just behind as apposed to next to, that's good for me, aslong as it isn't Clarke starting, all should be good.

And therein lies the problem with loans - they'll only want to come if they're going to play. In this case, Payne is undoubtedly a good player but unless Duffy will move back to the right he will only come as cover, albeit better cover than Scougall (who I still think isn't good enough) provides.

I like this move. He scores goals and allows us to be flexible with the midfield. In games like yesterday you could for example move Duffy wide and slip moncur in there.
I heard that's why he said returned from Peterborough.

Just looked on Twitter and now Alan Nixon is reporting interest.

That would require a change in formation as Duffy wouldn't be able to play RWB, or at least it wouldn't play to his strengths if he did.

I didn't mean for Duffy to start there, just when we struggle to break things down we can move pieces about and moncur would make the bench stronger

But would Moncur go on loan to a side inc the league below his current club just to sit on the bench? I wouldn't if I were him.

I'd like us to maybe have a look at this lad if Huddersfield go up. Young, fast, great potential and has Championship quality. He probably wouldn't get a look in at Huddersfield if they were in the Premier League so it could be a possibility.

Not involved in our friendly vs Udinese last night...I'd like him to get a year on loan with a good championship side, I recall Wilder had interest in January

Think he was quite highly rated at Southend (if I'm thinking of the same player.) was in a similar situation to Leonard I believe

Before moving to hudds but obviously they did so well he didn't really get a chance last season.

May be one to look at but I think I'd be more tempted to look for a wide man that can also play in the hole

I'd like us to take him, that is if he is indeed available?

He would be i'd imagine, we've got Palmer back on loan and are reportedly looking for another attacking midfielder.

I like Payne, but he isn't ready for the premier league. A loan would suit both him and us well, and of course any club that acquires his services. He is only small, but he is a dangerous little player. On occasion though games seemed to pass him by a bit, probably due to a lack of regular football.

We had two VERY good number 10s last season in Kasey Palmer and Izzy Brown. However, there is every chance we could go down this year (I believe we are more than capable of staying up but i'm not deluded enough to think there is no way we'll be back in the championship next season), and if we do go back down, then Payne would be valuable to us. He just won't get the football he needs this season with us that he needs to kick on.

A loan to you lot (with a good manager) or someone like Brentford (who play in a similar fashion to us) would be brilliant for all parties :)

And then he signed Carruthers and since then young Brooks has emerged. We already have Duffy - can't see us going for another no.10.

this would be awesome. i dont really know much about him, but our forward line would be a sharp payne

I was only speaking to our gym instructor earlier (who's a Huddersfield fan) and he was saying they had a few lads who could use a run out in the Championship this season.

It's a decent shout to look for players because:

Local (ish)
Not Leeds
A club with a good team ethos
Players aren't likely to be out silly money

I think he's a good shout for a loan.

Maybe wait until nearer the window and see how Brooks/Duffy do at this level.

'If' Brookes was sold think he'd be a great option. If Brookes is still here, move along.

Yes, I know what you mean.

Oh well then...might as well I guess if the gym instructor says so. Was he speaking in some official capacity for Huddersfield Town Football Club, or was he just being a teeny-weeny bit patronising by suggesting that these players aren't good enough for them, but they'd do for us and that the Championship is "a little run out" rather than a serious, difficult, competitive division? Maybe I've misinterpreted this, but it sounds to me like he's viewing our club like some carer that can take the elderly relatives for a little spin to the garden centre on a Sunday then bring them back in time for tea.

Isn't that what we are doing for Chelsea?

Yes I took it the same way Cerberus we don't need patronising by Huddersfield fans we will catch them up and leave them trailing in our wake. We are bigger clu b than them, but along with Burnley Huddersfield have been run astutely for a number of years and got there reward.

Is that what you think we're being like with Chesterfield, Doncaster, Wimbledon, Walsall and Swindon?

Or is it, as I believe, that fans of any team just want fringe players to go to a half decent club to get playing time in what are usually 'win win' situations.

Think you need to stop overthinking pal.

Suspect a lot of people are basing their opinion of him on the Southend v Utd game when Utd's abysmal defending made him look a world beater (see also most of the Swindon squad from the play-off games).

He's done very little since and was unable to force his way into the H'field side.

Possibly a good signing for Oxford but that's probably his level.

to be fair that is a good assessment, think for Oxford and L1 he could find his feet again and show what he can do, rather than here were he will need to perform higher and better that he has previously shown and when he as it as only been in fleeting glimpses.
