It's the expectation that hurts

I learned many years ago that if I predicted a win for the Blades to someone, they usually lost. The answer was simple, don't predict the score. On the other hand, I would often say to Wednesday fans that I expected them to win their next match or avoid relegation etc.
I kept to my word for many years until in 2022 a friend of mine overseas asked me for a prediction of our home match v Rotherham as he was going to bet on the outcome. We were in good form and I knew Rotherham were playing badly and suffering from injuries to 2 or 3 players. So he could make a few quid, or kronor in his case I told him we would win, of course we lost.
I've kept my mouth shut since then and being a Blade I usually am a glass half empty sort of person expecting things to go wrong if they possibly can.
I was expecting us to struggle against Coventry but we gave our best display of the season. Our injury list had shortened, we had almost a full squad to choose from and for the first time this year I allowed myself to actually believe we were going to be in the top 2. Going into the Oxford game I was quietly confident, and even afterwards felt sure it was a blip.
They say a week is a long time in politics, that goes for supporting the Blades as well.
It goes without saying that we will not be promoted via the play-offs.

After the Oxford performance and loss after Coventry, I kind of expected this as it was clear that Coventry was yet another one off where our one and only way of playing suited those particular opponents. We were woeful against Oxford and Wilder's subs were awful and ineffective. He had no plan B at all and it's become apparent to everyone we play now. Everyone knows how we play and how to shut us down and they all know that Wilder has no way to respond and adapt to it.

He certainly seems to have run out of ideas at the moment. Why he started with (or even signed) Cannon is beyond me. I had seen him a few times for Stoke and was never impressed. The Robinson selection has been well discussed elsewhere on here. If he can't or won't come up with something different he could well be on his way in the summer.
