Hardly call 8 goals in 32 starts a great run of form.

Then again he has just scored 3 goals in 15 games for derby so we maybe onto a winner here.

Rob Hulse only has 6 goals from 20 games yet he is viewed as an undisputed success so far this season - just give the kid a chance!

Given the choice I personally wouldn't have signed Stead, but now he is a Blade let's give him all the support we can.

id rather have signed a player whos going to be in the first team getting us goals... not a "squad" player.

Save the 750k and put it towards bringing earnshaw.

I wasnt happy to hear about him sign

but i have a feeling that he may be a striker that will be in the right place at the right time for us i don't know why but im quietly confident

Im prepared to give him a chance but his record in the prem is awful and sunderland fans love us for taking him.

Love you? we're practically dancing in the street!

To see what Warnock said... that he'd rather have Stead than Stokes made me laugh, how many of you guys would?

Don't get me wrong, I saw Stead on his day was a decent player. A nice first touch, a few silky skills and a good range of passing. Also he has nice hair, however I don't thick Warnock brought him to Sheffield to give Paddy Kenny hair tips.

Anyways, there was a question that went unanswered:

''what's so good about Sunderland anyway? ''

Well to Blades4eva, the answer is that we're the 5th most succesful club in English football behind Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal and Everton. Also the fact we have a huge 49,000 seater stadium that can be expanded to 72000 and our 7 top English league titles, 2 FA cups and a charity shield. To have had players such as Kevin Phillips who is one of 4 to score 30 goals in a premiership season, the others are Thierry Henry(most recently) Andy Cole and Alan Shearer.
What's more he wasn't even voted in the top ten 100 greatest Sunderland players, he is just one of the most recent heard of.

Finally, good luck to moving out of Sheff Wed's shadow, possibly one day you lot could get yourself together and be nearly as big a club as them, Stead could do that for you I'm sure! Good bye!

Told ya they were happy just like we were when they bought Andy Gray for the price they did.

yeh but Andy Gray scored 20 goals a season (well 1 n half seasons he played?) for us so i really didn't want him to go, looks like he will do the same for Burnley.

Oh and Keane stop living in the past like most sheff wed fans do. Looks like Sheff wednesday might actually be turning things around for themselves though.
5th most successful club. Worst ever points total too, amazing how such a successful club can be so shit.

p.s. Kevin Phillips had one great season in the premiership, whats he done after that?

Failed to stay in the England team and is now playing championship football with most prem rejects.

So not alot has come from phillips since.

Yeah, but Gray scored for us... doubt Stead will score!

Very true you can't expect to be the best forever, Chelsea already discovering that, as did Man Utd. In reponse to Phillips yeah he had one good season still was a great player that season and you can't take that away fom him, doing that in the prem isn't easy so you can't take credit from him.

Tell me honestly who's the bigger club Sunderland or Sheff Utd?

Was it 1 goal that gray got for you? for the pricely sum of 1.1 million if i remember....

Expensive goal.

Tell me, was you a wednesday fan in a previous life? :D

More on Kevin Phillips, I respect him for it same with Andy Cole. They've stayed in the prem and grew old gracefully. Instead of buggering off to Spain and the usa like Beckham, I hate Beckham.

so your telling me if you got the opportunity to go to spain you wouldn't go? Find that hard to believe.

Andy Cole and Phillips havn't had the opportunity to go to spain to my knowledge.

and we arn't talking about manchester united here or chelsea. Phillips had one good season so how can you say you can't be the best forever when he was never the best in the first place?

Oh and no one ever said Sheff Utd was a bigger club than Sunderland so i don't know how you brought that into the argument.

(i think this guy is a wednesday fan myself because all he talks about is players in the past and who has the biggest club)

Sounds like we should be trying to be as good as you....were
I also we think we're beating your points total from last year already...but thats the present day and it doesn't sound like you're bothered about that

Also becareful at hillsborough, the place stinks:)

Sunderland may have a big stadium, but it's rarely full and never will be big enough to get out of the shadow of those other dole-monkeys at Newcastle.

Jon Stead got a hit in the crossbar challenge, for Derby, on soccer am this morning.

He must be good then?

;)

On that performance he's a bargain.

He did more than certain forwards have done recently in the first 10 mins today!

Hope he can keep it up.

Alright performance caused them trouble.

Hopefully more to come from him.

i had a great view he played great, bargain if this is continued

i think webbers shitted it up now, not trying and having a crap attitude has cost him his place imo, my order to be played now is
Hulse
Stead
Nade
Webber

I was chuffed to bits with Stead, a few more performances like that and i think the pie sellers at the lane will have to stock up on the humble variety.

Great performance by Stead!

Hope he continues playing like this, great bargin.

Not getting my hopes up yet though til he puts summit in the back of the net.

My main gripe with stead was...... he was not selfish enough,

Their was 2 great opportunities to slam ball in back of net where he tried playing it over, not necassarily this is a bad thing. But i feel had he gone for goal he would have got one of the 2.

Couple of flicks didn't work for him, but other than that a good solid debut.
