As a back-up player, cover for Hulse that is a fair deal.

As the answer to our other problems up front it isn't the answer, but Warnock is trying to bring in someone else according to what he's said. Hopefully another forward and a midfield player before the end of the window

750K is a good price. If he recaptures his early Blackburn form it's a helluva price!

Considering this signing, I personally think Earnsaw would now be ideal

I wasn’t exactly thrilled when I heard the rumours surrounding the potential signing of Jon Stead but after giving it some thought I am starting to come around.

He did look a good prospect at Huddersfield and early on at Blackburn, the problem is that many players have shined brightly at first but faded away once the initial impact wears off (Jeffers, Cadamateri, Seth Johnson, etc).

It’s become something of a cliché but Warnock does have a habit of getting the best from players so I’m hopeful that we will see a return to form for the lad.

At the end of the day the kid was an England U21 striker (much like another target of ours with a similar amount of hype) and has scored goals in the premiership. He has lost his way but with such a (comparatively) small fee the gamble may be worth it.

I just hope the Bramall lane faithful with give him a chance.

jon stead? what a joke! we sign a quality player like killgallon then sign this heap he isn't good enough, thought we needed a pacey goal poacher not some one like stead its terrible we might as well admit relegation now unless neil signs another striker

To be fair, Kilgallon has lost his way recently in a similar fashion to Jon Stead but that has taken nothing away from my enthusiam since we signed him.

Hopefully a few more signings will put this in context, Stead would be good as a back-up/stand in for the starting 11 and perhaps we can help him to re-capture his top form. He strikes me as a confidence player and i just hope we give him the backing to help build that confidence.

As i sair earlier in this thread, at a cost of 750k i personally think it is a gamble worth taking.

jodman killgallon lost his way because leeds have where as derby are right up there and stead never found his way

apperances (goals)
2002-2004 Huddersfield Town 68 (22)
2004-2005 Blackburn Rovers 42 (8)
2005-Sunderland 35 (2)
2006- Derby County (loan) 17 (3)

stats dont lie! enough said!

I wouldn't bet against him starting ahead of Webber on Saturday.

Was hoping we wouldnt sign him.

But i have been thinking and i thougt the same for Hulse, so i will just have to wait and see how he fairs in games.

Stead joined an unfamiliar squad on a temporary basis on the back of some very poor form when he was loaned to derby; it is only natural that he would take a while to settle in and then get his form back – the derby fans I have spoken to are sorry to see him leave.

I honestly think that his lack of form is down to a lack of confidence not helped by a number of moves early on in a promising career.

I don’t want to turn this into a rant against Kilgallon because I am ecstatic at his signing, but I stand by my point that both players have gone through a loss of form because of a lack of confidence for a variety or reasons.

Both are former England U21s, both have something to prove and I believe that both will turn out to be very good players for our football club.

We should give the lad a chance. He was a very good and promising player when he first started out, he just needs to get himself into a good hard working team to re-find his form i reckon.

Im prepared to give him a chance but his record in the prem is awful and sunderland fans love us for taking him.

They probably wish they didn't sell Andy Gray to Burnley now as he's scored loads for them this season, so I guess the reason Stead didn't do well at Sunderland is because quite frankly, what's so good about Sunderland anyway? :D

Don't forget Stead had a great run of form after joining Blackburn, let's hope he does the same for us.

Hardly call 8 goals in 32 starts a great run of form.

Then again he has just scored 3 goals in 15 games for derby so we maybe onto a winner here.

The 3 goals came in 3 consecutive games aswell

Derby won all 3 but hasnt scored in his last 8 games.

I think it was 6 in 13. That just makes the average worse later I suppose.

It's what he does from now that counts.
